My recent event for Maskargo, Malaysian Airlines, was a hit. How did we do it? We created an experience. Maskargo - Malaysian Airlines rewrote the event-planning rulebook by creating an in-flight experience on the ground. ✈️ ↪ Our event passes were designed like boarding passes. ↪ We spoke like air hostesses. ↪ The music was curated to mimic an in-flight playlist. But why stop there? The table centrepieces were mini airplanes. And the attendees loved it. Why? They felt like they were part of something special. A unique experience that transported them out of their usual routine. As an EMCEE, we are responsible for bringing life to the plan. Match the vibe and keep up the hype. Every event is like a piece of the puzzle. 🧩 It has its own shape, colour, and texture. One piece doesn't fit all. If you're giving a presentation at a corporate event, you want to use a different language than if you're speaking to a room full of teenagers. If you're pitching to a group of investors, you want to have a different tone than if you're trying to grow your social media following. So, next time you're preparing for an event: 🚀Know Your Audience Before you start preparing for your event, you need to know your audience. Who are they? What do they like? What are their pain points? 🚀 Create Unforgettable Experiences People don't remember events that are just "okay." They remember the unforgettable ones. So, focus on creating experiences that people will remember for a long time. 🚀Attention to detail One of the most important things you can do to prepare for your event is to pay attention to the details. In this case, matching the in-flight experience was the most challenging part. Then, shape your content accordingly. That's the secret to nailing any event. The battle for customers has moved a notch higher as the global economy transforms into an experiential economy. More and more customers are seeking quality experience from service providers. Even those offering tangible products are being challenged to incorporate the experience component. The competition is very stiff in the larger service sector and moreso cruise industry. Contemporary customers are increasing moving towards aqua experience as tourists embrace cruising as alternative holiday destination. Accordingly, top cruise lines are investing in talent management . This has seen the cruise lines recruit top talents from across the globe. Kenya hospitality professionals are among the most sought after by cruise recruiters. One of the biggest biggest beneficiaries are Kenya Utalii College graduates. They are now part of workforce of leading cruise lines. Their performance has been quite exemplary. I congratulate Utalii alumni for raising our flag high in the cruise industry.

Marrakech 🐪🌴☀️ Safe to say Leo enjoyed the trip – here he is practicing his newly unlocked skill of roaring 🦁🤣 This trip was monumental for me personally, and here’s why: 1️⃣ It was our first formal holiday as a family, just for the sake of a holiday. 2️⃣ It was the first time I (pretty much) did not work during a trip. 3️⃣ I came back to everything running perfectly in the business. For years, I’ve struggled with switching off, and delegating hasn’t always come naturally. But I’m getting better. As we continue the ‘build-out’ phase of the business, making it operate more independently of the Founders and we're definitely seeing the results. The trip didn't get off to the ideal start with our car getting broken into the night before leaving and our fully packed suitcase getting stolen... But hey - it's all replaceable and fortunately our passports weren't in there so we were still able to go! Huge shoutout to Drew Maycock and Golrokh Mojarad for holding the fort on the academic side – better than I could’ve hoped for. I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside such a strong team. 🙏 I definitely needed this switch-off. I am sharing a special video created by myself and my co-travellers in Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia back in June of this year. The challenge was to create a 360 degree video before the sun totally sets. We came from 7 countries of different professional backgrounds (Japan, Philippines, Kuwait, Canada, Ireland, US, Bolivia). We quickly got together; exchanged ideas; planned how to execute and at the end delivered in 30 minutes. This one of my favourite travel experiences because I have seen how powerful diversity can be. Here are some of my reflections : 1. A more diverse group has the capacity to be more creative and innovative. A team coming from different backgrounds means variety in ways of approaching a situation. 2. Diversity eliminates “group thinking”. A homogenous organisation has a high probability of experiencing “group thinking”. Once a team “group thinks”, it becomes monotone in terms of communication; looking at risks; identifying solutions and executing tasks. It hinders creativity. 3. A diverse team means every individual gets the opportunity to learn from each other and enriching one another (either personally or professionally). Everybody wins!
