Cities at the core of WIPO’s Global Innovation Cluster Index 2024 🌍 The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will unveil the next edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) on 26 September. The GII tracks innovation worldwide and highlights the top 100 science and technology clusters. Early insights reveal that urban hubs in Asia (Tokyo-Yokohama, Shenzhen–Hong Kong–Guangzhou) and the US (San Jose–San Francisco) continue to dominate the top 10, while Cairo, Chennai, and Istanbul are rising fast. Regional innovation strategies are crucial as they leverage local strengths and resources, fostering tailored solutions that address specific economic and social challenges unique to each region. Though the context was Sweden, Sigrid Hedin's keen analysis made me believe that this approach can work on a Caribbean level. However, Jamacia is the only member of CARICOM that has a national innovation policy which makes promoting collaboration among local governments, businesses, and academic institutions to enhance the region's competitive advantage and drive sustainable economic growth, difficult and done on an ad hoc basis. Which other five Caribbean countries do you think will be the “first” to develop national innovation policies to strategically build and manage their innovation ecosystems?

Dutch companies have a significant presence in Catalunya, reflecting the historical ties between the Netherlands and this region. Notable names like Heineken, ASML, Randstad, Akzo-Nobel and Philips have established operations here a long time ago, leveraging the skilled workforce and innovative environment. Personally I started doing business with Barcelona based companies a long time ago and always highly valued the region. Catalunya's appeal lies in its pro-business environment, excellent infrastructure, and high quality of life. The region is a leader in sectors such as technology, logistics, and manufacturing. Barcelona's 22@ district, for example, is a thriving tech hub attracting global talent and companies. What makes Catalunya unique is its blend of tradition and modernity, fostering a collaborative spirit that benefits both local and international businesses. 🌟 Innovation week at the Prague University of Economics and Business in full speed and a landmark event for Tourism and Hospitality🌟 Just yesterday, we took a significant step in the #MICE industry by signing a memorandum of cooperation. This wasn't just any agreement—it was a promise between the Prague Convention Bureau and the Faculty of International Relations /Prague University of Economics and Business/ to forge ahead with a shared vision. Martina Jiránková, Jan Kubinec and Lenka Zlebkova put pen to paper, marking the beginning of something genuinely special. Special was also the expert discussion preceding the ceremony. Key Takeaways from the Expert Panel Discussion: Lenka Zlebkova shared her passion for pushing us towards sustainable practices, reminding us why we do what we do. Roman Muška echoed the sentiment, focusing on the crucial role of #ESG in keeping Prague at the top of the #MICE world. It's all about making real, impactful changes.
