Climate Action, for me, began as an environmental topic addressed on a systemic level by governments and international assemblies like the Paris Climate Agreement. Until Lakshmi, a social enterprise founded through the support of Enactus while at King's College London, made me realise that even as a youth I could champion environmental protection alongside my passion of economic development and social justice. And that’s why I find the Youth Empowerment in Climate Action Platform (YECAP) so incredible! A big thank you to Leslie Zambelli, Yu Xiang Kok, and Vikram Raman for nominating me to represent the incredible #impactinvesting team at Schneider Electric. Thank you as well for all your guidance throughout the last eight months as I’ve deepened my engagement and understanding of #socialimpact #entrepreneurship in South and Southeast Asia. The Youth Co:Lab Springboard Programme was a wonderful forum to interact with and answer questions from innovative eco-entrepreneurs! Thank you to Charles (Chongguang) Yu, CFA for moderating and Cynthia Cheung and her team from UNDP for organizing a great session! Joined by fellow panellists Kavickumar Muruganathan from Microsoft, Rebekah Earp from CVC Capital Partners, and Daniel Teoh from GSMA for the ‘Corporates For Climate Change’ panel, we discussed the evolution of climate change awareness, our insights into the sustainability industry, and advice for climate entrepreneurs. As someone who’s only just started my #sustainability career, I reflected back on a sustainability journey which began in my childhood in Cote D’Ivoire and shared three key personal discoveries: 🌟 Find Your Passion. From green financing to sustainable fashion to biodiversity, the sustainability sector is all-encompassing so identify the area that resonates with your purpose across any of the three pillars: environmental, social, and economic. 🌟 Understand the Sticking Point. Within your area of impact, explore why that sector is facing inertia in transforming towards a sustainable future. Is it a problem of capital, resources or technology? Or maybe it’s an issue of raising awareness, developing standards or enforcing mechanisms? 🌟 Build Capabilities and Network. Enrol in courses or position your career towards building fundamental skills in the issue of your interest, and expand your network of partners and collaborators to complement your capability to address the critical sustainability need within the industry. Comment below what other advice would you have for someone, an early career or a professional, transitioning towards a sustainability career?
