To make the EU a carbon-neutral continent by 2050, #renewableenergy sources are being increasingly integrated into the grid. Here, the less predictable nature of renewable electricity sources meets an increasing but variable demand for electricity (e.g. EVs) in more locations of our grid, placing decentralized strain on electricity networks. This raises the risk of power imbalances and highlights the need to find flexible solutions for grid stability. From the perspective of e-mobility expansion, the challenge translates to effectively anticipating the demand, predicting how much energy to supply at any given hour and finding optimal incentives for consumers to become active participants of the process. This is, in a nutshell, what the concept of flexibility charging (incl. vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home technologies) stands for — how do we adaptively and intelligently manage EV charging processes to optimize cost efficiency, grid stability and the integration of renewable energy sources for the benefit of both consumers and the broader electrical grid? The answer is: by leveraging advanced algorithms and data analytics. ∙ Energy management and optimisation: AI algorithms can optimise the charging and discharging cycles of EVs to maximise efficiency and cost savings, which includes predicting the best times to (dis)charge based on electricity prices, grid demand, renewable energy availability and other factors. ∙ Predictive analytics: AI can forecast energy demand and supply by analysing historical data and real-time inputs, which helps to predict when to store energy in EVs and when to release it, ensuring a supply-demand balance and preventing grid overloads. ∙ Load balancing: AI helps in balancing the load on the grid by managing the timing and amount of energy that EVs either draw from or supply to the grid. This is crucial for maintaining grid stability, especially with the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources. ∙ Dynamic pricing: AI can facilitate dynamic pricing models, where electricity prices vary based on demand and supply conditions, allowing EV owners to benefit from lower costs by charging during off-peak times and selling back to the grid during peak times. In this context, data analytics & AI become crucial enablers for the successful deployment and operation of flexibility charging, V2G and V2H technologies, ensuring that these systems are smart, efficient and adaptable to the evolving energy landscape. #data_on #welovetechnology #itsonus
