On this International Day of Women Judges, we consider not only the importance of promoting #WomenInJustice and #WomenForJustice but also the benefits for local, national, and international communities of educating girls more broadly. In our project context of Tanzania, access to secondary education for girls is not only challenging but also dangerous. Happy International Women's Day to you all! This year's theme is 'Tipping Points' and we firmly believe that access to education is one that has an enormous impact throughout the world on women's ability to be independent and engage in their communities. Literacy and numeracy skills are vital for breaking cycles of poverty, food insecurity and gender marginalisation. Almost 7% more men in Kenya are literate than women and closing this education gap is key to providing the foundation for women to embrace opportunities. EDUCATION AS A TOOL FOR CHANGE. Education is one of the most powerful ways to eliminate violence against women. During my conversation with Beatrice, a past student of the University of Cape Coast, we explored how empowering women through education creates opportunities and reduces vulnerability. Statistics show that 33% of women in Ghana experience domestic violence, but educated women are more likely to advocate for their rights and access support services. Let's use education to break the cycle of violence and build a more equitable future. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #EducationForEquality #GhanaForChange

African countries have made steady progress in closing gender gaps in access to education with Sub-Saharan Africa reporting a higher proportion of adolescent girls at the primary level in schools than ever before. However, the percentage of those who complete secondary education is still dismally low at 42%. This reflects the status of the world in terms of barriers affecting girls..." One of the key recommendations made from the #au_pancoged1 was to strengthen advocacy strategies to increase the enrolment of girls in schools, as well as bold confrontation of socio-cultural practices and policies that impede girls’ access [...] 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild 2024 https://lnkd.in/eEyx_sbb by Lorato Palesa Modongo and Boubakari Hachim

Why #PlanForHer Education? Did you know that only 48% of women in Pakistan are literate? The country’s future hinges on our educated daughters. We can't harness our full potential until we elevate female education. It's not just about literacy—it's about enabling women to make informed choices that fuel personal and national progress. #KhairKhwah #FamilyPlanning #IWD2024

On this second day of the #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGender-BasedViolence, I am reflecting on the transformative power of education. Coming from a marginalized Maasai community in Kenya, I have witnessed firsthand how access to education can change lives, particularly for women and girls. Education provides individuals with knowledge, confidence, and opportunities, breaking the cycles of violence and inequality that have persisted for generations. However, many girls still face barriers such as early marriage, limited resources, and harmful gender norms. Addressing these challenges is crucial for creating a future where women can fully exercise their rights and live free from violence. This campaign reminds us that empowering young girls and women through education is an investment in individuals and entire communities. Let us collectively continue advocating for policies and actions prioritizing quality education access for all. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGenderBasedViolence #EducationForAll #GenderEquality
