INSPIRING SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION FROM MASSIVE ATTACK! It's great to see an internationally renowned band like Massive Attack taking such a proactive and innovative approach to driving lower carbon emissions around their live shows - in this case their Bristol (UK) show coming in August. They've teamed up with public transport companies to offer fan incentives such as free travel on e-buses and trains to reduce dependence on private cars. As a fan of the band for many years, I find this particularly inspiring! I've pulled some detail from the Train Hugger website below, and the link to the full site is at the bottom of this if you would like to know more: Copied from the website: "Mindful of the fact that up to 80% of emissions for major live shows come from audience transport, and private car use creating 9 times more carbon than travelling by rail, the band have teamed up with Train Hugger to make the following exclusive offer for fans travelling outside of Bristol on 25th August: + purchase of a rail ticket for travel outside of Bristol = a wristband for show day VIP bar and toilets + wristband = free post show travel via e-bus travel to rail station + 5x post show "show special" trains made made available by GWR - departing Bristol from 23.30 + each rail ticket - creation of new climate resilient woodland in the south west By taking part in this experiment, Massive Attack fans will create a climate resilient woodland of 19,150 native oak trees in James Wood, near Taunton, approx 40 miles from Bristol. The land comprises 85 acres of former farmland and unmanaged woodland and provides education, carbon capture, flood resilience and a rich area of biodiversity" https://lnkd.in/gSV_Rsb5 #sustainability #sustainableinnovation #lowercarbonemissions #greeninitiatives #sustainabilityinitiatives #sustainableproduction

Today I'm happy to be in Auckland to see Pearl Jam. This is not your standard LI work related post I hear you thinking. You are correct. Since crowdsurfing my way to the front on a few occasions at Pearl Jam both in Australia and USA I have grown older, my hair is a little thinner and I have become a little more concerned about a warming world. Sometimes whilst speaking at events I have talked about the earth in the 'goldilocks zone' of the solar system. You know, not to hot and not too cold; but this fine balance is being 'anthropocened'. So in my infinite wisdom I started to have a quick look at music and climate action. It is for those professions, a business as much as their art. Many people have asked me to see the Coldplay doco about their work around carbon reduction and awareness. One comment that has been raised is, yeah these guys can afford to do some stuff, which is blindingly true. I would suggest that many who can, don't. Although I haven't become a Coldplay fan (I'm not quite deaf yet) I can appreciate the work that they do. When Pearl Jam, Coldplay and other old rockers care, take action and announce their plans, then they are then subject to all of the reasonable and unreasonable commentary of others. We do this at Ziptrek Ecotours New Zealand. We have discovered that science is evolving, that the solutions are mostly ill-defined and that sometimes it's not worth sharing. Except for the fact that it is. It makes me think that our younger generations will not think that everyone did not not care about their future and if we can inspire and challenge one naysayer into some action, then it was worth it. So...as I lull myself into a moment of youthful reminiscence and let again my hair out, I encourage all still reading to not forget your youthful values. Know your number. Know where the big bits of your pie are. Systematically electrify everything. Maybe even adapt your behaviour to match. Rock on. https://lnkd.in/gPjg-G-m https://lnkd.in/g7mrZ-wc Tātaki Auckland Unlimited #PearlJam #ThePixies #climateaction

The DP World Tour has launched a new fan travel emissions tracker, which will help spectators to calculate and offset their greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) when travelling to and from #golf tournaments. The easy-to-use tool is being deployed in collaboration with Hamburg-based carbon management solutions provider AQ Green TeC, with ticketholders across 12 tournaments in 2024 automatically receiving a link to a new portal to input their event travel-related data. After submitting details on flights, accommodation and ground transportation, spectators will be offered a way to purchase verified carbon credits to offset their calculated GHG emissions. “It is widely recognised that the biggest contributor to GHG emissions for live events comes via the spectator / fan / attendee travel,” David Grundlingh, Chief Executive of AQ Green TeC, told Global Sustainable Sport.
