Groundbreaking! An unexpected breakthrough in quantum computing. Oxford Ionics just announced that they managed to stabilize a Qubit using standard silicon technology instead of previously used lasers. That means that the commercialization of quantum computers might be just around the corner (perhaps before the end of the decade). While quantum computing companies like to talk about climate models and drug research, the application everyone is really after is code breaking. A quantum computer can literally hack into any system currently deployed. Combining that with powerful AI will produce the ultimate cyber weapon, enabling anyone possessing such technology to bring down the entire infrastructure of any country at will.
