“When I got back to my engineering desk, the work seemed dull and lifeless, like dry toast. I could do it, but it was tasteless. For the sake of my health and well-being, I gave up the office job and took up dance education full-time.” Meet Tim Mah; an engineer turned dance educator who combined his passion for dance with his desire to give back through the DARE-2-Danzkool Giving Group. Since starting his Giving Group in 2014, Tim has raised over $75,000 for his DARE-2-Danzkool program. This unique Giving Group setup allows anyone to easily donate to the dance program through a central fund, no matter which charity hosts it. Once funds are raised, Tim distributes the money to the participating charities. Organizations like the Vancouver School Board, Saint James Music Academy, and the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society have hosted the program, positively impacting over 900 students and counting. Small gestures at scale make a big impact, so why not consider what you could donate to the Old Fire Station’s Big Give campaign. https://lnkd.in/eFJ5QeVH People need a place to feel welcome, express ideas and passions, think through changing times, or escape into art, dance or a show. These opportunities often don’t exist for people with fewer resources, and the combination of Covid, the cost-of-living crisis and stretched frontline services means there are many people who are not being represented or included in the arts. Through working more inclusively, over the next year the Old Fire Station in Oxford expects a footfall of 25,000 people in our building. Some will come to see a show or join a workshop, some will be moving on from homelessness or social crises, others will be volunteers, trainees or refugee women working for Damascus Rose Kitchen. Our work helps people feel part of a community and less isolated, make connections and build networks, improve wellbeing and a sense of purpose, feel heard, represented and valued.

Idiom : Charity begins at home... “Charity begins at home” is a phrase used often, but what does it really mean? Does it imply that we should focus solely on helping family and close friends before extending support to others? Or is there a deeper lesson about responsibility, compassion, and the broader impact of charity on society? The “home” in this phrase isn’t just a literal house; it signifies one’s personal sphere - family, friends, and close acquaintances. By practicing charity within this sphere, individuals cultivate generosity, patience, and compassion, which can then extend naturally to the wider community, virtues I have always aspired to and encouraged in my personal and professional life. Since incorporation back in 2007 the CPM business has actively engaged with a wide variety of charities, foundations and NFP’s providing expertise and value in kind support across our range of services including film, animation, web-dev, design and event media. We feel it is vitally important that organisations reliant upon donation, corporate or other types of sponsorship have access to the best in creative media. It is also often overlooked that one of the most important and valuable assets in your organisation are your people and their stories... In the case of Autism Anglia and the enclosed kinetic typography film, it was particularly rewarding to replace a more traditionally used professional voiceover artists with the voice of the actual person behind the piece. Real stories about real people matter more now than ever and truly resonate with an audience, certainly more-so we feel than the glossy, clearly-shutterstock-inspired content we see.
