For a DEI program to succeed, leaders must see its value and commit to it. This can be done through initiatives like cross-team innovation, supporting ERG recruitment, and community outreach. Sharing DEI success stories builds a strong case for investment, as DEI is essential, like security or quality programs. Five advocacy tips are: think like a leader, communicate clearly, explain the purpose, stay loyal, and excel at work. Using these strategies, can improve DEI discussions. It’s also important to understand leadership’s perspective, address past concerns, and show how DEI has grown into a valuable program. The sentence I will start with from today's Conference is: YOU ARE A LEADER WHEREVER YOU ARE.......... The White House Initiative on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Federal Employee Leadership Development Conference had convenings focused on Valuable UpSkilling, Leadership Communication Styles, and Most Importantly How to Strengthen Individuals, Teams, and Our Community, through the Self Reflection and Self Acceptance of the BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL AANHPI IDENTITY. Hearing the stories of other Leaders, with the REMINDER TO ALWAYS VALUE THE POWER OF OUR FAMILIES' ANCESTORS is what resonated with me the most this year. From a Focus on Self Love, through the method of taking a Pause, Reflecting, and then Taking Physical Action: to Pat Yourself on the Back, Give Yourself a High Five, and Giving Yourself a Hug, as a Previous Generation in Leadership, I think the next Generations of AANHPIs Will Build in Grace into How they Lead in the Federal Government. As a Second Generation Filipino American, As a Woman, and As a Different Abled Individual....... The things I wanted so much for my generation, will now be made possible for future AANHPI Generations. Seeing this TRUTH today made me feel so Empowered and I am thankful to all those who came before AND all those who will come after....... Happy #InternationalDayOfTheGirl! To celebrate, we are bringing the #LeanInGirls program DIRECTLY TO GIRLS with two online sessions launching this fall. The first session, “Lean Into Your Leadership Strengths,” helps girls see themselves as leaders by highlighting how they can—and already!—demonstrate leadership every day, in big and small ways. The second session, “Challenge Stereotypes,” helps girls learn to recognize limiting stereotypes about themselves and counter them with accurate self-descriptions. The potential of the world’s more than 1.1 billion girls is limitless. When girls lead and learn how to spot and push back against stereotypes, the effects are immediate and far-reaching. North Carolina Technology Association (NC TECH) is excited to be partner with Leanln.Org—the nonprofit organization founded by Sheryl Sandberg—to launch Lean In Circles, and you’re invited to join us! Lean In Circles provide a space where women throughout our network can come together in small groups across roles and levels to give and get peer-to-peer mentorship, find support, and build new skills with a world-class leadership curriculum. Thank the women who have stepped up to be Circle Leaders. We couldn’t offer Circles with the Leaders to guide them. Circles will meet virtually once a month from January to June 2025.
