In every humanitarian context, the SEADS principles provide a robust framework for effective action: 1️⃣ Use livelihood-based programming: Empower communities by supporting sustainable economic activities. 2️⃣ Adopt a participatory approach: Involve affected populations in all stages of crisis response. 3️⃣ Commit to preparedness & early action: Anticipate and address needs proactively. By embracing these principles, we can create more resilient and self-sufficient communities. #HumanitarianAid #CommunityEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment

How are you centring the voices of children in humanitarian response? 🗣 In our evaluations and assessments of humanitarian responses, we see children frequently excluded from conversations about their needs, with an over-reliance on proxies speaking on behalf of children. This comprehensive guidance, brought together by Eline Severijnen from Save the Children International, provides practical steps for preparing and conducting meaningful and ethical consultations with children. It promotes adopting realistic approaches tailored for complex situations and highlights the importance of collaborative efforts. Why do we 😍 it? 🌟 It's a step-by-step resource that guides you from developing the Terms of Reference to reflecting on the process and identifying areas for improvement for future consultations. 🌟 Closing the Loop!!! It outlines why children should be able to see the result of their participation and key areas of consideration that should be planned for at the start. 🌟 It emphasises the importance of staying true to children's voices and considerations for child-friendly communications. 🌟 It is packed with top tips, tools, outlines, and activities. Better inter-agency data collection is needed to ensure that children and their protection are at the centre of humanitarian action. We recognise that there are challenges and limitations in conducting assessments with children in complex contexts. So we're pleased to see a resource like this. Check it out! 👇🏾

Beyond Belief: The Unfathomable Reality of Children Without Food and Water "In the tapestry of our world, where abundance abounds, It is beyond belief that hunger and thirst still resound. For in the arms of plenty, where resources overflow, Children languish without food and water's gentle flow. It defies comprehension, in this modern age of plenty, That children suffer needlessly, in hunger's cruel bounty. In the land of plenty, where crops ripen and fields yield, Children go to bed hungry, with empty stomachs sealed. How can it be, in a world of plenty, where wealth is amassed, That children are denied the basic rights, so steadfast? To go without food and water, is a human rights violation, A mark of shame on our collective civilization. The world cannot turn a blind eye to this unfathomable plight, For the cries of hungry children pierce through the darkest night. It is a call to action, a moral imperative we must heed, To ensure that every child has food and water in their need. For the world's resources are abundant, enough to go around, And no child should suffer, in hunger's silent sound. Let us join hands, in a chorus of solidarity and care, And ensure that no child goes hungry, anywhere. For it is beyond belief, indeed, that in our modern age, Children still suffer hunger and thirst, trapped in a cage. Let us rise, with empathy and compassion as our guide, And ensure that every child's needs are satisfied." 🕊

Hello community! We are at a crossroads for the UK’s role in aid and development. With less than a decade to go, the Sustainable Development Goals feel further away than ever. The challenges go beyond old questions about aid effectiveness or how best to spend the aid budget, to fundamental questions about how the system should work. The current system, built on colonial structures and assumptions needs to be reimagined. The UK’s role needs to evolve. We need justice-based approaches to international development, moving beyond approaches that put a plaster on the problem. Global challenges like poverty, inequality and exclusion and the climate crisis require new models rooted in justice, equality and solidarity. Those models need to be radically reimagined. Bond UK Future Dialogues convenes a space where the UK sector and others can take the time to think creatively and test ideas about the challenges and opportunities facing them. To realise the steps towards this reimagining, I’ll be developing a contribution to BOND’s thinking, exploring concepts of remedy, repair, stopping the harm and decoloniality. I know so many of you are already involved in radical alternatives to traditional development approaches. If you are able to share perspectives/ideas, we would love to hear from you, by the end of March! Please message or share here. Lena B. Waris Mahad
