Coming soon........ Our current fragmented, compartmentalised curricula and standardised approaches to schooling and assessments are excluding thousands of students who go unnoticed and are underserved, yet seemingly educated but uninspired to tackle their immediate challenge as a result of the passive programming and dogma of colonial education instruments. To date, some of our traditional pedagogical methods and approaches still encourage a single solution to problem-solving and a way of thinking through a euro-centric lens, that is divorced from the realities of life and fails to equip learners with the capability to successfully tackle emerging issues from the complexities of modern life. From October 2024, we will be hosting a series of conversations with schools, teachers, researchers, students, and parents on the pathways of developing a curricular roadmap for this type of education (a model that recognises the gifts and talents of the learner), which encourages the combination of #technology, #AI, #data, and #human #problem-solving capability and #creativity. To achieve and operationalise this objective, we will be exploring ways to 📌 Develop curricular materials to engage students to discover the wonder of problem-based education through an interdisciplinary lens 📌 Use instructional design and scientific methodologies as a framework for critical thinking and problem-solving using technologies 📌 Explore pathways that encourage and nurture students’ confidence for choice-based/ self-determined learning If you are interested in creating something amazing that paves the way for greater inclusivity, creativity, and innovations in education- please join in! #Open #Education #Democratic #Learning

Skills for Tomorrow – Critical thinking, creativity, adaptability, the stuff that could help you survive in a future ruled by AI. Yet we’re still cramming kids’ brains with trivia they’ll forget by next week. 📈 4️. Mental Health & Well-being – The only class most students excel in? Anxiety 101. Schools must teach resilience and support well-being or risk turning out generations of burnt-out grads. 💪 5️. Looking back on my twenty-year journey as an educator, I am reminded of the profound impact teachers have on shaping the lives of our youth. Teaching has always been my true calling, a mission that fills my heart with purpose and drives me to make a difference in the world. In today's fast-paced society, the role of teachers is more crucial than ever. The introduction of artificial intelligence in our classrooms presents us with a unique opportunity to enhance our teaching methods and better support our students. AI allows us to tailor learning experiences, offer immediate feedback, and create engaging lessons that cater to the individual needs of each student. I can still vividly remember the long hours spent grading papers and planning lessons with meticulous detail. Thanks to the assistance of AI, I now have more time to connect with my students on a deeper level and inspire them to explore their passions and potential. The potential for growth and innovation in education is vast, and I am eager to see the positive impact it will have on our students' learning journeys. As we navigate this new chapter in education, let us hold true to our commitment to inspire, empower, and guide the next generation of leaders and thinkers. "The drive for academic rigor must not eclipse the importance of re-engaging students in their learning, particularly after the isolating effects of the pandemic. Now that students have returned to school, embracing a more human-centered approach to education — where learning is asset-based, collaborative, and tailored to each student — is not just a compassionate choice; it’s a pragmatic necessity...This is especially important for students furthest from opportunity, including students of color, students experiencing poverty, and students with learning differences. The goal should be to engage and empower students, leveraging their unique identities and experiences as strengths to accelerate their learning and growth." Thank you, NewSchools, for this well-written article. I look forward to learning more about the literacy and math-centered AI platforms listed here. Fortunately, there are many tech tools out there that focus on soft skills and fundamental communication concepts for these students as well.

Today's session with the The Colorado Education Initiative's Advancing Equity Using AI Working Group was a deep dive into the critical themes shaping the educational landscape: family communication, digital literacy, professional development, and equity. We explored innovative ways to engage families and communities, understanding their crucial role in supporting digital literacy and equitable access to education. The discussions emphasized the importance of professional development for educators in AI, ensuring they can guide and inspire our students in this digital age. I'm turning to you to help us better answer these questions How can we bridge the gap between technology and family engagement to support our students' learning journeys? In what ways can professional development in AI literacy be made more impactful for educators, enabling them to lead in the digital transformation of education? How do we ensure equitable access to these technologies, so every student has the opportunity to thrive in a digitally literate future? Let's collaborate and share ideas to pave the way for a future where education is more inclusive, engaging, and innovative. Thanks Elaine Menardi, Patricia Quinones, Judith A. Martinez Olivia Sutphen, MSW, CCSP and Ronica Rooks for the lively discussion as always! #DigitalLiteracy #AIinEducation #EducationalEquity
