What Inspired Me to Become an MSK clinician...🧐 My journey toward becoming a physiotherapist, and specifically an MSK (musculoskeletal) clinician, began with an incredible opportunity offered by a sports therapy company (Active Health Group). I was lucky enough to secure a few weeks of placement as part of my then undergraduate degree at the University of Huddersfield, and this experience completely changed my perspective on my future career. During the placement, I observed clinicians who were not only highly skilled but also incredibly passionate 💪 about assessing and managing MSK injuries. Watching them work, I was struck by their deep understanding of human movement, the body’s potential for healing, and their drive to help people get back to their best. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I knew I wanted to dive deeper into this field. Encouraged by this newfound passion, I pursued an advanced diploma in sports therapy while also completing a BSc undergraduate degree in health and sport 🎓. As a young man with little idea of what I wanted to do in life, this experience gave me a sense of purpose. It felt like I had finally found my calling—helping people recover and improve their physical well-being 🏋️♂️. Driven to expand my knowledge even further, I decided to take on a physiotherapy degree. The desire to learn more about MSK injuries and the joy of helping others reach their full potential has only grown since then 🙌. So, how did you find your way into the world of MSK? What sparked your passion for this rewarding field? 🤔

This isn't my usual type of post, but it's a poignant one nonetheless. After much reflection and a mix of emotions, I have decided not to renew my HCPC licence as a physiotherapist—a credential I've held for 14 years. Although I have been non-practising for 9 of those years, I've maintained my registration as it's been an integral part of my identity. This decision marks a significant milestone in my professional journey, one that has evolved considerably since I first qualified as a physiotherapist. My career in physiotherapy began with a passion for helping people heal and improve their quality of life. The values of care, dedication, and continuous improvement that define the profession have influenced both my personal and professional development. Each patient, each case, and each challenge in physiotherapy taught me the importance of empathy, precision, and resilience—skills that are just as relevant in the business world as they are in healthcare. However, my career trajectory took a swift turn when I discovered an equally strong passion for the business side of healthcare. I ventured into the world of business, initially as a way to leverage my clinical expertise to improve healthcare delivery on a larger scale, but this quickly grew into a full-time pursuit. I found myself drawn into the business of buying, building, and, later, selling clinics. Today, as the owner of a sector specialist business brokerage focused on the health, medical, and wellness industry, I apply the same principles I valued in physiotherapy—care, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. My background as a physiotherapist has provided a solid foundation for understanding the needs and challenges of healthcare businesses, making me a better broker, dealmaker, and adviser in the space. While I am giving up the physiotherapist title, I remain a staunch supporter of the profession. I continue to advocate for the invaluable work physiotherapists do and the critical role they play in our health system. I believe that my current role allows me to support the healthcare sector in a different, but no less meaningful, way. #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #profession

Are you returning to clinical practice as an MSK clinician? Recently I have had this conversation with multiple practitioners who feel as though they aren’t as confident and may have forgotten some aspects of assessment (or at least won’t be as sharp as what they were before). Whether you’ve taken time away for maternity leave, travel, or a career break, stepping back into the clinic can feel both exciting and a little daunting. MSK practice is dynamic, and things can evolve quickly! 🩺 Re-engaging with the latest techniques and refreshing your knowledge of assessment processes can boost your confidence and make the transition smoother. Remember, it’s completely normal to need a bit of a refresher after time away—and there are resources available to help you get back up to speed! If you’re interested in reviewing key assessment techniques or brushing up on clinical skills, reach out. Let’s ensure you feel fully prepared to provide the best care possible. 💪 👋 DM me if you’re looking to refresh your assessment knowledge! #MSKClinician #ReturnToPractice #ClinicalSkills #MSKAssessment #BackToWork #MaternityLeaveReturn #CareerBreak #Travelling #RefresherTraining #ContinuingEducation #SportsTherapy #SportsInjury #SportsRehab #InjuryandSport
