White busses. Military families know all too well what those mean… White busses have 2 very significant meanings in the military community: Deployment & Homecoming Any time I’m driving on a military installation, my stomach flips when I see a convoy of white busses. Someone’s either saying “goodbye” or welcoming someone home. If you’re part of the military community, you know the roll of emotions that come with seeing white busses. As you watch the news, remember people like the ones in this photo. There are *hundreds of thousands* of military personnel currently deployed. And if you’ve been watching the news, you’ll know many of those folks are in some pretty hostile, tension-filled, very uncomfortable environments. Remember Everyone Deployed every day. Consider the sacrifice they’re making as they spend months away from their families - time they’ll never be able to get back. Let’s talk about those families more often. Let’s hold them in support more often. Airmen from Ellsworth Air Force Base (SD) volunteered around the Black Hills for the inaugural “Service before Self” day. Volunteer teams from Ellsworth Air Force Base’s 28th Bomb Wing scattered across Rapid City, helping out with housing construction projects in partnership with the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity as well as projects with the Youth and Family Services. When kicking off an unforgettable 2025, sometimes we have to go back and open up the toolbox. Gather your experiences, both successes and failures. Evaluate how they helped you become a better leader and human. As I was putting together my goals and resolves for 2025, I journaled as I reminisced my military experiences. It was instilled into me that being a “Professional” was a never ending journey. Striving for professionalism is a key component to focus on in 2025. I mandate professionalism not only in my self, but also in my staff. Professionalism in manners, actions and trust. When we all take responsibility for becoming professionals, not only does the organization grows, but we also grow as individuals.
