Over the past six months alone, I’ve had clients from three different countries turn to us for our expertise in shaping their Pickleball court projects. It got me thinking. How did we get here so quickly? When I was younger, my go-to games were the classics—badminton and ping pong. Then came squash, which felt like a revelation. But now? There’s an entirely new wave of racquet sports, and Pickleball is leading the charge. It’s everywhere. Padel, Squash, Rocketball—they’re all booming, and it seems like we’ve entered a whole new era for this kind of sport. Pickleball isn’t just a game. It’s a business opportunity. The growth has been nothing short of phenomenal. In the US alone, the number of Pickleball players jumped by an astonishing 158.6% over the past three years, reaching 36.5 million players by 2023. Courts are popping up everywhere to keep up with demand—over 10,000 locations in the US and counting. The business side of it is fascinating. Brands are emerging, and courts are being built faster than you can say “paddle.” And trust me, where there’s rapid growth, there’s opportunity. Pickleball is expanding to India! I think Pickleball growth is only in the 2nd inning of global growth. Why? Low cost to play (a paddle, and net is only requirement). A low cost set-up (nets are relatively cheap and can be set up anywhere - including in inner cities and suburbs). An inclusive sport (young/older, all genders, all ethnicities, all abilities are welcome). Finally, a relatively easy to pick up fun sport. (albeit challenging to master) I see no obstacles to significant growth of Pickleball globally from current participation rates.
