#ICES 2024 Day 2 Recap: Panel Discussion on CSR, NGO Partnerships, and Sustainability
An insightful panel discussion on forging sustainable partnerships between NGOs and corporates in CSR was moderated by Mr. Aman Bhaiya, Vice President, SBI Foundation.
The session featured prominent voices from across sectors, who shared practical insights on creating meaningful and impactful CSR partnerships.
Ms Shilpa Jaiswal, Head of CSR at JKCement, stressed the importance of changing the traditional NGO-CSR approach. “If value comes out, it’s a sustainable partnership; if not, it isn’t,” she noted, highlighting adaptability over rigidity and the focus on beneficiaries as the core of CSR efforts.
Mr Aman Bhaiya, Vice President, SBI Foundation, urged NGOs to aim for "true impact" through CSR initiatives and even fundraising, calling for genuine and sustainable efforts that create real change.
Ms Sneha Arora, CEO of Atma - An Accelerator for NGOs, emphasised that when pitching to donors, a research-based approach is critical. “Ensure your work connects with the donor’s work, maintain communication and integrity,” she advised, underscoring the importance of strong relationships built on shared values.
Ms Sutanuka Ghosh, Senior Director at Genpact, elaborated on forging partnerships by understanding corporate objectives, projects, and goals. She encouraged open discussions and alignment of ideas, advising NGOs to showcase their on-ground work when pitching to corporates.
Ms Poonam Sharma, Director of Global Citizenship and Sustainability India at Abbott, spoke about deal-breakers, stating that lack of thorough research or misalignment of objectives often leads to failed partnerships. She stressed the importance of thematic alignment between the NGO’s mission and the corporate’s purpose.
Ms. Anushri A., CEO of Adhyayan Quality Education Foundation, also participated in the discussion, offering her expertise on education and sustainable partnerships.
This panel illuminated the key aspects of building impactful CSR partnerships, focusing on research, adaptability, communication, and shared objectives as the pillars of success in the evolving CSR landscape.
