"The world’s appetite for electricity shows no signs of abating. A recent report by the International Energy Agency says the growth in demand in 2024 and 2025 is forecast to be among the highest levels in the past two decades. Solar PV alone is expected to meet half of the increase, they estimate. 'This is a positive prediction for the future for members of our industry here at home as well. Off-grid solar energy becomes more accessible with costs dropping up to 28% in July 2024. The price now ranges from R143K to R381K in SA, driven by reduced load-shedding and pending electricity tariff changes. Independence from grid fluctuations is a key benefit. #SolarPower #EnergyIndependence https://lnkd.in/dkpqGCVw

A UK-based think tank, Ember, forecasts that the world will have added 593 GW of new solar photovoltaic (PV) installations in 2024, marking a 29% increase from the previous year. By the end of July, 292 GW had already been installed, with China leading the growth, expected to contribute 334 GW—about 56% of global additions. Other major contributors will include the United States, India, Germany, and Brazil, which together will account for three-quarters of the new capacity. Ember stresses the need for adequate grid and storage infrastructure to support this rapid expansion in solar energy. Italy: In Q1 2024, utility-scale solar grows 373%. In Q12024, the Italian solar industry added more than 1.7GW of solar PV capacity, a notable increase over the same time in 2023. The largest rise, up more than 373% from Q1 2023, was seen in the utility-scale sector. During the first three months of this year, 579MW of new utility-scale PV was installed, as opposed to 123MW during the same period in 2023. Eight new projects, all larger than 10MW were the main contributors to this growth. #solarenergie #solarenergy #solar #italy #electricity #mywaytosolar Read more: https://lnkd.in/ezm5Dpce AdobeStock_807054573

Did you know that #solar PV is among the most competitive electricity generation options today? Solar PV’s levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) has decreased quickly across the globe, with China among the lowest LCOEs, followed by India and Australia. Solar PV is cost competitive and, in some locations, has even gone below the fossil fuel range. ➡ To learn more about the different applications of solar PV visit our latest FactBook here: https://lnkd.in/e3GksdFH #energytransition #solarpower

Efficiency gains and other cost reduction efforts likely to be offset by material prices in the medium term, according to Head of PV at Exawatt - now part of CRU, Alex Barrows. He says the silver market is currently in deficit, and this deficit is set to get even greater over the next few years, with a potential small decline in supply over the next 5 years as well as some growth in demand. He was speaking on #Day1 of the TaiyangNews - All About Solar High Efficiency Solar Technologies #VirtualConference, which is spread across 4-days - Dec. 2/3 & Dec. 10/11, 2024.
