❔ It started with a simple question. I’m ashamed to admit this, but at the time it was asked, not only did I not know the answer, I did not even know about the issue it raised. Five years ago, I was speaking at an event about small businesses raising money from venture capital firms. Venture capitalists are professional investors who buy shares in companies in return for cash so those companies can grow. Attended the VentureCrush event by Lowenstein Sandler LLP in NYC yesterday. First off great event 👏 So now the key points for female founders: - Yes funding for female founders is < 2.5% now - Yes funding is tough for all founders currently, but even more so for early-stage female founders But…………….. - Be very diligent about the investor- founder match. Make sure the thesis aligns - Perfect your pitch. If you can’t explain to your grandma its too complicated - Lastly, get ready for rejection. But remember all it takes is one yes to get the round rolling #venturecapital #funding #founders

One thing we've learnt about raising investment...there's no such thing as too much networking! Last night Jeremy and I headed into London to network with angel investors and spread the word about Pravi I went to another excellent Female Founders Rise event where a panel of angels shared their insights about what they look for when making investments in early stage start ups My big take away (and hot take from one of the panellists) is that female founders often get stuck by focusing on what the 'right' metrics are: How much traction do I need? How much revenue? How many customers should I have before I seek investment? Whereas, male founders kick open the door and say: "My idea is cool, you should give me money" (This is obviously a generalisation but pretty much reflects my experience so far!) Across town, Jeremy was onstage giving a 3 -minute pitch to angel investors at the Tech StartUps Speed Pitching event organised by The Business Minds Raising investment is a steep learning curve but the best advice is get out there, talk to people and pitch your idea! 💡
