Groundwater Storage, Yay! We have the technology, now we just need to learn how to use it. Having lived in CA, the Mojave Desert is ever present, especially when the Santa Ana's are blowing. Ontario is going through it's algae bloom season across the province. Health Units advise people to stay out of the water. Aquatic Aeration Solutions has the answer to algae blooms. It's frustrating when you get ignored by the Health Units after sending information to all of them to provide info on our Ultrasound System to combat algae. Same with all the Conservation Authorities. Also offered information and case studies to FOCA, Federation of Ontario Cottagers Association. No thank you was the answer. But it's ok to dump chemicals into the lakes to kill algae and milfoil. Chemicals are a temporary solution and require repeat applications. The majority of Ontario lakes are also a source for drinking water. The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks are aware of the WaterIQ Ultrasound System and as a government body cannot endorse any specific technology. Which I agree with, but as a government regulatory body it would be great to have them participate in a study and testing through any of our universities that offer environmental engineering. This paper discusses the use of handheld imagery (e.g., cell phone cameras) to collect vegetation data on reclaimed #oilandgas well pads along with spatially balanced sampling. This method developed by Abnova Ecological Solutions' Michael Curran and others reduces observer bias, collects data in a fraction of the time of traditional methods, results in permanent records which are spatially-explicit, and can be used to better understand seed mix outcomes while satisfying all existing regulatory criteria. As image processing technologies advance, so to will the benefits of image-based monitoring.
