With the new WA emissions regulations going in to effect in Jan 2025, this is a great opportunity to mitigate the cost of compliance and prepare for the implementation of stricter regulations!

The 2nd reading of MP Sarah Dyke’s bill aiming to #EndPeatSales in the UK has been delayed. Due to read today, it will not be heard by MPs until spring or early summer. This is another disappointing delay in transitioning to #peatfree, which is desperately needed to protect peatlands from extraction. 📉 At a round table on January 22nd which aimed to prepare for the 2nd reading, industry professionals agreed that the uncertainty around dates for peat legislation is making it difficult for businesses to plan for the future. 🎯 Dyke says voluntary targets set in 2011 have not worked in getting the industry to become peat-free – The 2020 target was missed by around 2.29 million cubic metres according to the HTA Growing Media Assessment. 🌍 Extracting peat destroys habitats, removing spaces for at-risk species including many of the UK’s birds. Huge amounts of CO2 are emitted during peat extraction, with implications for reaching our climate targets. We need to stop moving the goalposts and introduce legislation that helps our growers transition to a #peatfree future. The Peat-free Partnership is continuing to push for legislation, and we hope this bill will see its second reading soon!

Ontario is going through it's algae bloom season across the province. Health Units advise people to stay out of the water. Aquatic Aeration Solutions has the answer to algae blooms. It's frustrating when you get ignored by the Health Units after sending information to all of them to provide info on our Ultrasound System to combat algae. Same with all the Conservation Authorities. Also offered information and case studies to FOCA, Federation of Ontario Cottagers Association. No thank you was the answer. But it's ok to dump chemicals into the lakes to kill algae and milfoil. Chemicals are a temporary solution and require repeat applications. The majority of Ontario lakes are also a source for drinking water. The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks are aware of the WaterIQ Ultrasound System and as a government body cannot endorse any specific technology. Which I agree with, but as a government regulatory body it would be great to have them participate in a study and testing through any of our universities that offer environmental engineering.
