Matthew Eickman did an exceptional job of asking the right questions (as he often does) and Seth Garber provided actionable tips that can lead to personal, professional and business growth. This is probably the second time I’ve heard Seth talk about the pivotal moment in his life where he decided to have an even greater impact. How do you show up? How you are thought of? How you are remembered? Ask yourself these questions, not in a narcissistic manner but more along the lines of helping others. Other advice: 1. “DROP THE EGO!” - you can be competitive without being a jerk. 2. “Make a decision” 3. “Book recommendations” - pick an operating system and crush it! Rather than chasing different ideas constantly…. 4. It’s okay to say “I don’t have enough information to provide an educated answer…” rather than answering a question just to answer a question…. From interest to advocacy, the path to geography was always there, just out of sight for Julia Dowell, Senior Campaign Organizer with the Sierra Club. Julia's current campaign at the Sierra Club is dedicated to shutting down power plants and working with vulnerable communities on the frontlines of impacts of pollution and climate change: “With my background, if I was going to do anything with my life, it had to be using environmental science and policy to right these wrongs. Recent release... my thesis on designing conservation initiatives ethically, for effectiveness and scalability, is now online. Here, I offer a comprehensive conservation framework to inspire conservationists to adopt the best practices that we demand of industry and academia. Where we are humbled by the damage our nations have caused at home and internationally. Where we offer to repair and compensate for the damage we have done historically and seek to do no harm in future actions. Where rights-holders and resource-users retain agency. Where we move from language of 'enforcement' and 'compliance' to asking "would you like any help, and if so, what would you like us to do and how?"

Cant beat being in-person - Video adress may be a way to share a message if you cant be there in person, but you do risk your absense telling a louder story than your recorded words. 2. Community Collaboration - Special thanks to Darren Wighton, local community leader, for his warm welcome and opening of the conference and, for his delivery of a powerful keynote on the importance of community partnerships for effective solutions. 3. Use the Brains trust around you - a great opportunity to make the best of the unique mix of passionate delagates to have them work at table groups to share thier unique perspectives, priorities and values. 4. Storytelling Impact - a masterclass from scientist and adventurer Tim Jarvis AM on the power of narrative and knowing your audience in driving environmental action. 5. Educational Outreach - Engaging and educating people is key to fostering a culture of conservation for generations to come.
