We continue to celebrate #IndependentRetailerMonth with more proof on why #supportingsmallbusiness is vital to your local economy: 💡 #DYK that throughout the United Sates, small businesses employ nearly 62 million people, or half of the employee workforce. According to data from the U.S. Small Business Administration, while large businesses have eliminated approximately 4 million jobs since 1990, small businesses have added nearly 8 million jobs to the workforce. 💰 If that’s not enough reason to #shoplocal, keep in mind that small businesses tend to give back more to causes in their local communities than larger businesses – to the tune of 250%. 🐛 All local bookworms should check out Firefly Bookstore LLC on Main Street in Kutztown (and if you’ve already been – head back because they have a selection of over 65,000 new and used books, board games, puzzles, toys, gifts and more!) 📚 Co-owners Matthew and Rebecca believe in the idea of “Act Locally, Think Globally,” and are a firm example of how local businesses positively impact our community. I have always preferred shopping in small family-owned grocery stores over larger outlets. It's a reflection of my upbringing. Starting work at the age of 15, I assisted my parents in running their business after school and during holidays. The connection to these stores, especially family-owned ones, left a lasting impact on me. I understand their challenges and struggles, which is why I continue to support them today. By shopping at these places, I believe I can make a difference. Supporting local businesses like small family-owned shops, buying directly from farmers, or choosing a local garage for services can have a positive impact. These businesses create jobs, pay taxes, and significantly contribute to the country's budget. It's good to reconsider our shopping habits from time to time. This is neither integrity nor code of conduct but it is important.
