Environmental pollution and #climatechange are stealing the next generation's future. This new report sees air pollution sadly climbing to the second place as a leading risk factor for death. A clear wake up call that we need to invest in clean air. The report also highlights that levels of ozone, an air pollutant and powerful greenhouse gas, are on the rise. Ozone is not emitted but it forms in the atmosphere, with methane being one of it’s precursors. #CutMethane Climate effects and air pollution can be mutually reinforcing- heat waves can worsen ozone pollution, threatening human health and crop yields. This calls for an integrated approach to the triple environment crisis. Targeting superpollutants comes with a double dividend.

The International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies was established by the United Nations General Assembly and is observed on September 7 to emphasize the importance of clean air and mobilize global efforts to combat air pollution. Air pollution is the biggest environmental health risk to humans, causing around 8.1 million premature deaths annually. It contributes to strokes, chronic respiratory diseases, lung cancer, heart attacks, and asthma. Poor air quality also exacerbates climate change, impacting agriculture and food security. Without action, related deaths could increase by over 50% by 2050.   Want to take some action on the day?
