𝗜𝘀 𝗚𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀? In this episode of Ghost Diving Q&A, Jim Babor, president of Ghost Diving USA, explains the challenges faced during our underwater cleanups, especially in Southern California, where missions often lead us beyond 100 feet/30 meters: 👉 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗵𝘀: It's critical for us to do detailed planning for time, decompression, and gas. 👉 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Moving nets can stir up the environment, making it tricky to see and orient ourselves. 👉 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: The danger of getting caught in what we’re trying to remove and how we carefully manage this risk. How do we tackle these challenges? ⭐ Through 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, ensuring everyone is on the same page with equipment, gases, and procedures. ⭐ Having 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹𝘀 and ensuring each team member is well-versed in advanced planning and problem-solving. ⭐ 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 ensures every diver can manage the complexity of the tasks. I was co-author of an IWA Blue-Green Systems paper on a Community Dry Toilet and Urine Diversion System Using IAPMO WE•Stand © 2018; it was published 30 July 2019. This system was issued a permit by the City of Portland, OR, US in September 2019, and is still in use by ~50 persons at the Kailash EcoVillage. Bear in mind, not all of the urine in this system is diverted. https://lnkd.in/gJj32cYB Let's be clear, unless you can afford one of those ~$1,000 composting toilets, most of the decomposition occurs outside the commode/toilet in a processor. And so, Alisa Keesey's deep experience and well-founded eco-sanitary/ecosan dry toilet model is workable for most citizenry—that is, as long as citizenry can buy-in to contributing to safely manage the decomposition management process. Getting citizenry to be comfortable with the humanure management process is the biggest challenge for more wide spread adoption.
Yesterday I learned: „Urine diversion is a cult“ I recently started diving into composting human output. It’s still a frontier for me. Apparently it’s a critical decision whether to divert or not. Have you used a compost toilet before?

Navigating Challenges: Lessons from Black Water Diving In the depths of black water, where visibility is limited to inches, adaptability becomes a lifeline. As a search and recovery scuba diver, I often found myself in these challenging environments, relying on unique strategies for focus and survival. One approach stands out: closing my eyes in the dark, murky waters. By shutting out imaginary dangers and visual distractions, I honed in on my tactile senses. This practice became a metaphor for facing uncertainties in life. In the face of challenges, we often encounter metaphorical "black water." Closing our eyes to external noise—real or imagined—can sharpen focus. It's a reminder that adaptability and concentration go hand in hand, guiding us through the unknown. Whether underwater or in the boardroom, the black water analogy underscores the power of tuning into our inner senses, trusting instincts, and maintaining focus amid uncertainties. #Adaptability #Focus #LifeLessons #NavigatingChallenges
