As I enter the role of Past Chair of IABC CER, I thought a timely reflection was warranted. While some elements as Chair are certain, like the role and responsibilities, in many ways I think the role is a bit of an exciting mystery. You know. It’s like the surprise ending from your favourite British spy movie or maybe an ever-enticing mystery novel. It’s that turn of the page, the “whodunit,” and the exhilaration of figuring out the answers before the ending. But answers take time. 365 days ago, when I was first elected as Chair, there were three things I wanted to accomplish. I wanted our Board of Directors to be innovative, collaborative and caring through our mutual connection. With the new, mid-year Achievement Report, we collectively delivered a brand new communication touch point. With the inaugural CER Leadership Series, a national speaking opportunity, for the very first time, CER executed a new sustainable revenue generator to directly support the development of our Chapter leaders. We turned the corner as collaborators with a new shared regional Professional Development calendar and a real openness to supporting each Chapter through best practices and resources. Remember those "ACTION" emails? Of course, there were hiccoughs along the way, and that’s the mystery part. You never knew what change might happen with the transformation of our association globally, and locally. The team learned to roll with it and help each other. That’s the caring part. I’m incredibly proud of this past Board for taking a chance of allowing me to push innovation as far as we could while maintaining a true sense of community. Maybe that’s the mystery of leadership? If you follow the clues, follow your instincts, and follow your heart, the team will come together to create a tremendous ending. Mystery solved.
We are proud to announce our incoming Canada East Region Board for 2024-2025. It's been an amazing year, and we're expecting even more innovative ideas for our incoming board across our chapters! Pay attention to both Herb and Ernest’s comments below. Ernest is quite correct that joining an organization such as the USSA is a interactive way to engage with our industry, and gives a company as well as individuals within a company, the opportunity to scale their business. Herb’s comments about showing up and participating I think is exceptionally relevant. People often ask me how I found success in this industry, my response is almost always “show up, be involved, do well for others”. So as we go into our fall show season participating in boat shows and activities that typically surround these show events; show up. Give back where you can. Pay it forward. Help another individual or company scale their business. Find ways to attract the younger generation into our industry, take a chance, offer an opportunity, a job, a simple task that might be useful during the course of one of your events. Host an event. I promise that the payback will come in scale.

CIRM and IALA have updated their long-standing Co-operation Agreement! During the recent CIRM Annual Conference in Busan, IALA Secretary-General (Francis Zachariae) and CIRM Secretary-General (Richard Doherty) signed an updated Co-operation Agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. The document emphasises the importance of collaboration between IALA and CIRM (Comité International Radio-Maritime) and identifies specific areas of mutual technical interest. The agreement has been updated as a consequence of IALA's transition from NGO to IGO, and it ensures that the two organisations will continue to work together in the interests of effective standardisation, supporting the needs of the seafarer and the saftey of life at sea.

Have you ever done something that scared you yet filled you with excitement? I have—many times! But planning the JEE London 2024 Africa Digital Dialogue & Reception was like preparing for an Olympic event for my firm, Jackson, Etti & Edu. The journey was filled with critical questions: 1. What’s our why? 2. Who is our audience? 3. Which speakers would add real value? 4. What theme would resonate? 5. Where’s the ideal venue? 6. How do we balance our budget? 7. Who’s the dream team to bring it all together? Our aim was clear: to deliver powerful content, create an unforgettable experience, and make every guest feel valued. Knowing we were hosting an audience for over three hours on a Monday, we carefully crafted every detail—from the program to the ambience to the food—to ensure it was worth their time. Did we succeed? Based on the glowing feedback from attendees, it seems we did just that. In the next couple of weeks, we will highlight gems from the event that you won't want to miss, so stay tuned! For now, enjoy some #BTS from the planning. #DigitalDialogue #InvestingInAfrica #JEELondon Yeye Nwidaa MCiArb Uk
