We welcome Meta's recent announcement they will be using #facialrecognition to combat celebrity scam ads. 👏 While there are some questions on whether the technology will be #privacy-preserving, and what the scope of the experiment entails, we are thrilled to see their iterative approach to configure the best way to protect what forms the base integrity of all people; #identity. After almost two years of advocating and innovating in the precarious space of facial recognition as a #safetytech, we are thrilled to see facial recognition being taken seriously as a solution. #ai #facialrecognition #safetytech

The app, Perky AI, created sexually explicit images of individuals using artificial intelligence. The ads were removed after being flagged by NBC. Meta made over $131 billion in advertising revenue in 2023. The deepfake trend has raised concerns about the distribution of non-consensual nude images and has prompted lawmakers to introduce legislation to hold those responsible for creating and sharing deepfakes accountable. 🚨 AI Ethics Alert: Snapchat's new "My Selfie" feature reserves the right to use AI-generated images of users in ads - by default. This raises serious questions about consent, credit, and compensation in the AI era. While likely legal, it doesn't align with best practices for ethical AI use. At Official AI, we believe in explicit consent, proper attribution, and fair compensation for any use of an individual's likeness as AI evolves, it's crucial that we prioritize user rights and transparency. https://lnkd.in/gqrZQrEe #AIEthics #DigitalRights #ConsentMatters

:- Rise in AI-Based Explicit Content Ads on Facebook and Instagram Popular social media platforms Facebook and Instagram experienced a noticeable influx of ads promoting explicit artificial intelligence, as reported by Wired. "AI girlfriends", a category of digital companions, have become a burgeoning area of concern due to their overly sexualized and objectified depiction of women. Users are sharing screen captures of such ads, reporting having received them despite their online behaviour in no way indicating interest for such content. Building on AI technology, these digital partners are designed to adapt and react to user's preferences and patterns, however, critics fear their explicit nature may contribute to the devaluation and objectification of real women. This matter raises questions about the efficiency of ad-targeting algorithms and the potential for manipulation of privacy settings by advertisers. Facebook has said that ads promoting sexual content violate its policy and are not permitted on the platform. However, a spokesperson from Facebook admitted the company had errors in its enforcement and promised to correct these mistakes. Discussions are ongoing about the ethical implications, the reliability of AI, and whether an increased regulation of such ads might be necessary. #AIEthics #AdTargeting #DigitalPrivacy Join MarTech community here: https://tally.so/r/3NWD6B for Exclusive updates. Social Media Marketers - watch out for mails from scammers impersonating Meta. I've had 2 in the past few weeks. They appear super legit, it's clear they're using AI as well to avoid the usual scammer mistakes (typos etc). Always check who the mail is from, and if you want, open an incognito window and paste the link that their button takes you to - if the landing page is anything other than an iteration of www.facebook.com, ignore it. Don't "login" as they will steal your logins.

Interesting trend of celebrities and the public reposting 'copypasta' to try to prevent Meta using their content to train AI. There is no legal foundation in what is being shared, Meta have even responded directly “Sharing this story does not count as a valid form of objection,”. Two interesting things. Firstly, seems that AI is becoming a catalyst for public consciousness on data-use and the power of sharing data with businesses. Something the advertising industry will need to recognise as this train goes faster. Secondly, you can dissent on most platforms, Meta included, through the settings. Don't engage in these meaningless fallacies as they only take away your real agency.

You cannot get valid consent for something by adding it to a privacy policy and then giving people a long winded way of opting out of it. It's not OK for Meta to do it. It's not OK for Google. It's not OK for Slack. It's not OK for Reddit. It wasn't OK the first time around with targeting advertising, and now its no OK with training LLMs. If you want to use peoples' data to train your AI models, or if you want to sell peoples' data to other companies to train their AI models, you need to ask permission first. https://lnkd.in/emPD4zrS
