"I hope my journey inspires more women, especially young girls, to believe in their power to create change - no matter how big or small it is." - Jackline Birungi. Our final entrepreneur in the spotlight for our #WomenEntrepreneurshipSeries is 2024 Anzisha Fellow, Jackline Birungi. Jackline is the 21 year old founder of She Deserves, a social enterprise which seeks to provide a natural pain relief alternative for menstrual cramps. After battling with her health due to painkiller usage in treating her severe menstrual pain, Jackline recognised the need for a non-harmful relief option for other Ugandan girls affected similarly. With the prevalence of school absence among young girls due to severe menstrual pain, She Deserves offers a safe alternative to painkillers in alleviating menstrual cramps and is helping to prevent more girls from missing school during their periods. For us, this #GlobalEntrepreneurshipWeek serves as a reminder that the achievements of individuals contribute to the collective success of many - and this is why it is so vital for young women to take their opportunities, pitch their ideas, and start their businesses. #GEW2024 #Anzisha #Entrepreneurship #EntrepreurshipEducation #Education #EntrepreneurshipSupport #YoungEntrepreneurs #Leadership #FutureOfWork #JobCreators #CareerPath

🌟 In the journey of entrepreneurship, it's easy to get lost in all the busyness, especially for high-achieving women like us. Within the chaos, cause let’s face it there is always some level of it, let's pause and remember this: "In the depths of burnout, remember to be gentle with yourself—you're doing the best you can." 💖 It's a reminder that even when the world demands so much from us, our well-being matters too. It matters most! Let's embrace a mindset of compassion and self-care, nurturing our minds and bodies with kindness and understanding. It's okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes, to hit a wall, or to need a moment to breathe. ✨ We're human, after all ✨ 🌿 Let's stand together as a community of strong, resilient women, supporting one another through the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. Let's prioritize our health and happiness, knowing that taking care of ourselves is not selfish, it's necessary for success. 🌺 #EntrepreneurialWellness #SelfCareJourney #EmpoweredWomen #MindBodyConnection #GentleReminder #WomenSupportingWomen #LoveYourBodyCoaching

Over 5.5 million businesses were launched in 2023. Guess how many are led by women? Only 17. 56% of startups have one female on board. In fact, when it comes to entrepreneurship, women are 30% less likely to start something of their own. Why is that the case? Women face a multitude of systemic and societal challenges. Women are nearly 18% less likely to have their loan applications approved than men, even when the requests are identical. Even as professionals, they frequently juggle work with familial duties. In 2022, 41% of women worked from home compared to 28% of men. 90% of women entrepreneurs do not have access to finance from formal financial institutions. And most importantly, women's entrepreneurial journeys are often lonelier. The lack of an adequate support system, mentorship, financial guidance, and emotional backing stops women from taking bold steps toward entrepreneurship. However, women make excellent entrepreneurs. According to the World Bank, women-owned firms in the US are growing at more than double the rate of all other firms and contributing almost $3 trillion to the economy. In fact, there is a huge business opportunity for women in the supplement industry. Research says that 69% of women said they would like to take a nutritional supplement created specifically for the female body. And, who better to manufacture supplements for women than…women! This year, Vedic Ventures is committed to empowering more women entrepreneurs to launch their own supplement brands. We guarantee 100% support throughout your journey with us. On that note, a very Happy Women’s Day to all! ✨ #happywomensday #womensday #supplements #entrepreneurship #womenentrepreneurs

Today I went to a workshop for women in business. We had a small segment with a panel that spoke about their experience in business and entrpreneurship. One of the ladies stated that she had to get off track and share that it is very important for us to seek therapy as entrepreneurs. I was elated that she expressed this becuase I feel that all entrepreneus need a therapist. We go through forms of anxiety and depression that may not make sense to others. We need a safe place to speak about our hurt and our fears and still be able to move on through the process as an entrepreneur. As a therapist who is also an entrepreneur, I know first hand about the boughts of anxiety and depression that comes with this journey, except I did not have anyone to go to ( I do now). That is why I go extra hard in promiting the importance of therpy with entreprenurs. If you do not have one, life will be greater once you get one. #therapyforentrepreneurs #therapyislife #lifeisgreaterwiththerapy

In our agri-entrepreneur support programs, we tend to look at women from an individual micro-perspective. As if they operate in a gender-neutral vacuum. We often struggle to include gendered contextual factors such as family relations and care responsibilities. This is a missed opportunity because family relations are extremely important in the success or failure of an agri-business in Africa. Stop ignoring the role of family and community. Bring support systems into the frame. Want to know how? 👉 Check out our full Aya report here: https://ow.ly/Hc4h50R8XVR
Learning 4: Bring support systems into the frame Stop ignoring the role of family and community 🤔 In your women’s entrepreneurship support program, do you perceive her family and social relationships as hindrances to her business endeavors, or are these relationships ignored entirely? 💡 Individual women agri-entrepreneurs operate in a variety of social networks that can both help or limit them in attaining their goals. Many women find the support from their spouses and other family members invaluable, helping them balance household responsibilities, finance their businesses, and navigate gender role expectations within their work environments. Other women face expectations from family members to prioritize household duties over their businesses. Highly educated women have been judged for taking up agri-entrepreneurship instead of working in a white-collar job. Whether family and community relationships function as assets or constraints, they are too important to be ignored. What you can do (better)? 🚀 Recognize women entrepreneurs as integral parts of larger social and familial systems. Try to understand the role of her family as assets and constraints to her business. 🚀Based on what you learn, you may decide to involve the husband or family members in the program. For example, organize a peer support session discussing how to leverage the support of the family or invite a married couple successfully running a family business to share how they do this in combination with their private life. Imposter Syndrome affects millions of people, especially high-achieving women. Imposter Syndrome is not a permanent condition. Focus on your strengths and the value you bring and replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Embrace imperfection - nobody is perfect, and recognize it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them. Surround yourself with positive influences and supportive people who encourage and believe in you.
