APEM Group provided an expert technical review of the Aquatic Ecology EIA Chapter for a multipurpose hybrid development at Silvertown Docks, London. We assessed aquatic habitat loss, infilling, piling, and cumulative effects and offered mitigation and management strategies. #AquaticEcology #SustainableDevelopment #Biodiversity

A wonderful picture of the four-spot chaser dragonfly (Libellula quadrimaculata) taken by our ecologist Claire Smith while undertaking ecology surveys in Northeast Scotland. These adaptable dragonflies can be found in a variety of freshwater habitats such as ponds, lakes, canals, and slow-moving streams. These remarkable insects play a vital role in the balance of our eco-system, helping to key populations of midges and other flying insects in check. While they themselves are an important food source for birds, fish and other insectivores. All of which keeps the food chain functioning smoothly. #SustainableDevelopment #ecologyife #biodiversity

Did you know that we’ve been forging a special partnership over the last year to better ourselves and our offering? Ecology is a broad subject area with TG being experts in terrestrial ecology. However, as a business we've recognised a skills gap when it comes to aquatic ecology advice and soils. And more broadly when it comes to habitat implementation on the ground. So we partnered up with FiveRivers, who are experts in aquatic ecology and river restoration, alongside wetland design / build and terrestrial habitat implementation. This partnership has meant we can offer reciprocal upskilling sessions for one another’s teams, and provide a more holistic service offering to our clients. Things really are better together. Find out more about what we’ve been up to in our latest Impact Report 👉 https://loom.ly/YovNn-s #Impactreport #ecologicalconsultancy #ecologist #TGTribe #Bcorporation

🌱 This is California Native Plant Week, hosted by California Native Plant Society! Great Ecology regularly uses native plants in our ecological designs and restoration and mitigation projects. 🌳 There are a huge number of reasons to plant native plants, at home, in projects, or wherever you require new flora. Native plants help to conserve water, protect soil from erosion, create habitats and provide food for birds, pollinators, and small animals. 🦆 Interested in learning more about the importance of native plants and the California Native Plant Society? The UK's diverse habitats provide crucial wintering grounds for a wide array of #bird species. From the wildfowl and waders that grace our coastlines and wetlands to the passerines that rely on #agricultural land for sustenance. As #development and land use change continue, it's vital that we understand and mitigate any potential impacts on these overwintering populations - which is where wintering bird surveys come in... Don't let the unexpected discovery of a protected habitat derail your project. With numerous regulations in place to protect endangered species, being prepared is key 🔑 In response to these challenges, we have established SEP Ecology with one straightforward mission: To provide robust, cost-effective ecological support for projects involving any habitat type, including areas with protected or invasive species. 🌿 🪲 --- SEP Ecology is here to help you identify potential ecological concerns early on and offer practical advice to navigate these challenges effectively, ensuring your project stays on track and within budget. Emergency management colleagues - what courses would you recommend to someone who wants to learn more specifically about environmental and ecological challenges and planning in emergency management? Both pre and post disaster, possibly like mitigation planning for ecology preservation? I’d like to find something that comes with a certificate/credential at the conclusion of study as well. Thanks! #emtraining #emergencymanagement

Timely paper discussing impacts (or lack thereof) of invasive aquatic plants 🌿 and management on fish 🐟 in Florida Lakes. #BioBaseMaps data helped inform the habitat analysis. Impacts of aquatic plant communities seemed to be less of a driver of fish assemblage differences than bigger drivers like temperature and Dissolved Oxygen. Would expect similar results in northern glacial lakes. So things in the environment (or within the lake) that are driving change in water temp, DO, productivity (and alternative lake regimes) may overwhelm the more subtle effects of vegetation cover and abundance. However, invasive aquatic plants and their management, especially in Northern lakes, can both be a cause and effect of the change to the entire lake regime. Aquatic ecology is complicated and we need long-term monitoring to help inform the proper management of our aquatic resources #LongTermMonitoring #Conservation #Fisheries #Macrophyes #InvasiveSpecies #APM. https://lnkd.in/g4CNT_Sf
