Fantastic week at ICMJ northern conference. Meeting and networking with fellow peers and industry professionals. Learning about the cattle supply chain from the paddock right through to the plate. Some key takeaways relevant to the producer/feedlot sector: - The potential profit that stands to be lost from the mishandling of cattle before slaughter -New and upcoming policy changes in the beef industry (EUDR) -The importance of traceability in the supply chain and the exciting new technology being developed to assist in this.
That’s a wrap! 🥩 👏🏼 Our teams have just finished judging in the chillers at Teys Australia and scoring is underway! ✏️ Winners will be announced at tonight’s Gala Dinner at the Great Western Hotel 🏆 #meatjudging #icmj #beefjudging #conference #beef #beefindustry #professionaldevelopment #carcase

The popular Wynyard Quarter footbridge has finally reopened, with the hope it will entice customers to return to hospitality businesses in the area. The bridge, only designed to be temporary, was first opened in 2011 ahead of the Rugby World Cup at a cost of NZD $3.7 million. Its purpose has served well since as a thoroughfare method for pedestrians, as well as its rising function to allow vessels through. Its opening has been met with joy from hospitality owners, who said it has been incredibly difficult to operate with such a drop in customers. 🔗 Read more online! #wynyardquarter #aucklandwaterfront #aucklandviaduct #viaductdining #RestaurantAndCafeNZ #KiwiHospo #HospoLife #Hospitality #ChefLife #BaristaLife #NZChefs #NZFoodservice #Foodservice #HospitalityNZ #RestaurantNZ

After 25 years in the parks and recreation (P&R) industry this is one of my "pet hates", and well done to Launceston for fixing it. Local government's purpose is the provision of services to their respective community. In relation to P&R this is in the form of providing facilities and enhancing/maintaining public open space. These facilities are provided according to a hierarchy, from Local to Regional. These facilities are used by their rate payers, and so their local council pays for them. What LG should not provide is State level facilities, as these are not for their rate payers. If the State wants an elite football stadium then they should fund and maintain it. There are too many councils around Australia maintaining State level facilities that should be the responsibility of their respective state governments. To their credit, some states are cleaning up this inappropriate situation.
The City of Launceston has this week formally voted to transfer the ownership of UTAS Stadium to Stadiums Tasmania. City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said while the stadium provided significant economic returns for the State and the entire Northern Tasmanian region, its operation until now had been funded entirely by ratepayers from the Launceston municipality. "Stadiums Tasmania has been specially developed to ensure our premiere sporting facilities in Tasmania are managed by experts in a unified and strategic way," Mayor Garwood said. The easiest way to deliver a 'National Stadium' is to simply re-zone the lamd surrounding Eden Park 500m in each direction to mixed use commercial/residential, take away the noise limits and buy some of that land near the stadium for public use. Some more funding could go into upgrading the train and bus links. Finally cricket should not be played there. The national cricket stadium should be in Cristchurch - Hagley Oval. Increase seating there and in Hamilton, Napier and put $200 million into rebuilding North Harbour Stadium into a world-class one-day, Twenty20 and Test cricket ground by 2030. An all-purpose stadium is a bad idea. It is sub-standard for all uses. Using Eden Park and Haglwy Oval/North Shore Stadium means more of the money can be spent on transport upgrades. 🥇🥈🥉District Sports EXCELLENCE Program! 💡Improving district sports administration at scale, can be transformative for Indian sports. 🏆 Here is an aspirational (R&R) model to motivate locally elected sports administrators. I found the exercise of developing the district administrator #persona to be a very insightful and interesting process. Many thanks to Mangalam Gupta for suggesting this. All State or National Sports Federations may benefit from such a program. #youthsport, #grassrootsport #excellenceinsport, #NIDJAM, #NSF, #AFI, #RnR, #motivation, #excellence, #nitiaayog, #societalthinking #usaswimming
