Every year, from November 25 to December 10, the world observes the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a campaign that aims to raise awareness and mobilize action to end all forms of violence against women and girls. Be supportive: keep yourself, your family and community healthy and protected. Say no to any form of violence – including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual or economic violence. We say NO to violence against women and girls because about one in three (30%) women worldwide has experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the launch of the #16Days of Activism to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (Nov 25- Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December). Violence against women and girls (VAWG) remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it. It can manifest in physical, sexual and psychological forms, encompassing: - intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital rape, femicide); - sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyber-harassment); - human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation); - female genital mutilation; and - child marriage. This 2024 campaign Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women will draw attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women to revitalize commitments, call for accountability and action from decision-makers.
