Sunrise Pavilion has officially opened its doors in San Jose, developed in partnership with Santa Clara County Housing Authority, City of San José, Santa Clara County’s Office of Supportive Housing, and the Bill Wilson Center. Sunrise Pavilion offers 43 affordable homes, including 30 studio apartments and 12 one-bedroom apartments, dedicated to supporting Transitional Age Youth (TAY) coming from homelessness. 🏡 Jamboree’s new Workforce Center is located onsite to support young adults transitioning to independent living. The Center offers career counseling, mentorship, and guidance on job opportunities, college, or trade school. It’s about providing the tools and resources at the right moment to help individuals regain their independence and create a bright, stable future, and ultimately break the cycle of homelessness. As Josh Selo, CEO at Bill Wilson Center, shared, “The opening of Sunrise Pavilion is a bright spot in the midst of the ongoing housing crisis our community is facing, sparking hope for a brighter future for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in Santa Clara County.” Watch more here: https://hubs.la/Q0307q7g0

One more post about culture – what could be a finer piece of heritage than pictured, the inside of the Cooper’s Tavern, in Burton upon Trent. Is this the best pub upon the planet? Almost, except they don’t serve stout. The bottom line for museums and cultural venues is that they are in a state, like the rest of Britain. Where for a start is the brewing museum in Burton? Theatres or arts buildings or museums that are run by or rely on councils will face yet more cuts. Will the Heritage Lottery Fund come to the rescue (or rather, shouldn’t museum staff be buying more lotto tickets?!). Long term One of the speakers at Andy Davis’ heritage resilience conference yesterday, Steve Stenning of the British Council, described culture as ‘a living thing’. By protecting it we are not only protecting ourselves, but generations to come. An altogether different dynamic than say, retail. You can accept some stock loss; but graffiti on war memorials, chopped trees, libraries closed or even wiped by cyber attack? It’s an assault on ourselves.
