The Locomotive of Black Leadership in Scotland. All Abroad! A couple years ago I stood with my friend Enoch Adeyemi at a railway station in the Forth Valley of Scotland. Enoch is an extraordinary person and leader - a conductor of positivity. It was symbolic that we stood by the tracks looking ahead together to the future. Then recently I found myself meeting Enoch again at a rail station in Glasgow, and we rode the train together into Edinburgh talking about what was happening and the future. Another metaphor by our side. Through the seasons - when the sun shines or when the rain comes- Enoch and so many talented individuals keep the trains moving. It is extraordinary what he and others like Onyinye Igbokwe (PMP)®, Joshua Adeyemi, George Tah, Bayile Adeoti FRSA, Helene Rodger, Eunice Simpson ACCA MAAT MBA, Dr Yekemi Otaru - and countless others have moved forward and sustained in Scotland, especially these last few years. To me they are modern heroes - trailblazers - adventurers that are traveling far. Tonight the train stops at The Black Scottish Awards in Glasgow. This is an extraordinary celebration of excellence, diversity, entrepreneurship, and achievement within the Black community in Scotland across sectors. This locomotive of Black leadership and innovation has fuel to keep going because of exceptional people. The world needs to know that Scotland is a modern, vibrant, contemporary place, and is increasingly multicultural. And that multiculturalism is what adds to a dynamic Scotland, and makes it that much more attractive to visitors and investors. As we celebrate and speak to these attributes, we also need to recognise the challenges - past track fractures and current track misalignments that many minority communities, businesses, and families still experience on their journey. Those lines need open discussion and more resources dedicated to adding routes. I respect and admire how Scottish Enterprise, many businesses, and universities are proactively stepping up and providing resources, ideas, partnerships, and solutions. The Scottish Parliament is also now more directly engaged. We can all board this train. There is plenty of room and all are needed. And what a journey it will continue to be - and how special to say we traveled with heroes along the way. Graduating with an MA in Public Art and Performance from London Metropolitan University was one of the happiest moments of my life.

🎉 Next month marks the 70th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision, a pivotal moment in the fight for civil rights and equality in education. While this decision aimed to dismantle the "separate but equal" doctrine, its legacy is complex and far-reaching. I recently had the pleasure of teaching my students about this intricate legacy during our February Black History Month culture and diversity lessons. The immediate backlash following the decision led to the unjust removal of educators of color from the education industry for decades, perpetuating systemic racism and inequality. This is most evident in the persistent lack of diversity within the education sector. Before Brown v Board of Education, there were thousands of highly qualified Black and Brown teachers in segregated schools across the nation. However, following the decision, many of these schools were shut down, and there was a nationwide mass firing of Black and Brown educators. Despite their equal or even superior qualifications, they were often not hired in the newly integrated schools. Some districts even refused to integrate and instead closed all their schools for a few years. As with many aspects of society, representation matters. The absence of educators of color likely discouraged students of color from pursuing education degrees, further exacerbating the lack of diversity in the profession. This vicious cycle has been perpetuated for 70 years. As we celebrate progress, it's crucial to acknowledge and confront the ongoing echoes of this racist backlash that still reverberate today. Let's honor this anniversary by learning and sharing the accurate history, while also reaffirming our commitment to creating inclusive and equitable educational environments for all. #BrownvBoard #CivilRights #InclusiveEducation #EducationForAll 📚✊🏾

Just thinking about Optimism and Generational, if we could help to make it a generational treat. So to be able to do it. Like with AI now may we be able to understand it to replicate it? thinking how much importance, between the many factors influencing on a person optimism level, be a person's own sensation of the own quality of life "lived curve", like if the quality of life goes getting better or worse or both, etc., for instance. (And, yes sensation, and if this sensation could be helped or kind of culturally forgeable?)

Dr Nghishitende attended the conference with some of her fellow board members - Dr Dominic Chirwa, Stella Munthali, and Siddi Maju, who delivered insightful talks and engaged in a Q&A session, providing practical suggestions for making museum operations more inclusive of the communities they serve. This approach is vital for creating a more inclusive and accurate understanding of British history. At Black Cultural Archives, this is the work we do every day, ensuring these narratives are preserved and celebrated year-round. How do we do it?
