Campbell has partnered with Cochrane and JBI to seize a-once-in-a-generation chance for a global step change in evidence synthesis. Initial meetings for the Building a Global Evidence Synthesis Community (BGESC) initiative have set the momentum in motion. Now, we're calling for expressions of interest to join and support this effort. This is an incredible opportunity for early career researchers to contribute to a global initiative to advance evidence synthesis, build meaningful relationships across the sector, and gain valuable leadership experience. The BGESC will be divided into 6 working/planning groups on topics such as: • Demand-side engagement • Data sharing and re-use • Safe and responsible use of AI • Methods and process innovation • Capacity sharing • Governance Interested persons should submit their application before 10 December 2024. Click here to submit an application: https://lnkd.in/d4DxT96J More information, including details from previous meetings and information on the working and planning groups, visit the website: https://lnkd.in/ddYccTcP We look forward to hearing from you!

I love collaboration – and this blog is no exception. Curious about what's going on with in-person research? Industry pros from the front lines share their perspective in this blog. Here's a peek: "The fact is, face-to-face research is back in full swing, and research companies must put innovation and respondents first." - Raj Manocha "In-person is often much richer and deeper in its ability to create conversation." - Molly Rennels Lazzara "Let's not forget the basics: when it comes to selling, you're dealing with people. And people want to be seen, heard, and understood. That's where in-person market research, or #facetofacemrx, comes in." - Sarah Kotva "In-person settings can uniquely capture the emotional and interactive aspects of focus groups, underscoring their ongoing importance in qualitative research." - Kelli Hammock Also, thank you to Lisa Harrison, Bob Qureshi FMRS, Alex Hunt for sharing their thoughts too. The fleeting dream of nuance. I've seen a number of posts this week, both directly addressing the issue and indirectly talking near the issue, of the striking lack of nuance in the world we live in. Far, far too much has been reduced to binary outcomes. Yes or no. Pass or fail. Black or white. We all know well that most of life happens in the "grey", whether we want it to or not. So why then, in business especially, are we so committed to A or B? Are we really better off having evolved to all this? I don't know. I'm sure there are stacks of research that show business outcome is better with this adherence to data. I know I am much happier in meetings and projects that really let us talk and LISTEN and tear into a problem. I'm not sure yet what the solution is, but it seems like the overwhelming sentiment, is that we need to move the pendulum back a little more towards people fulfillment, not just feeding the machine.

The concept of "deep working" has become a hot topic lately, but what about "deep listening"? 💬 At the MAPS 2024 conference last month, part of our SEMbio team was able to sit in on a fantastic session about building trusted relationships. One of the topics discussed was that of deep listening. 🗣 In an industry where building trusted relationships is at the heart of each MSL's role, deep listening is a skill that benefits everyone. The 4 steps below are a great reminder to approach each conversation with intention! 📌 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅 your agenda and any judgment 📌 𝑨𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅 by being present, open, and focused; maintain eye contact 📌 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 by asking deep questions in an effort to connect emotionally 📌 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒚 - be silent to create space for the other person to form their thoughts and ideas, capture the essence of what was said, and then paraphrase in your own words to play back what you heard How do you practice deep listening? #MedicalAffairs #MSL #MedicalScienceLiaison #deeplistening

I read a paper about the cultural characteristics of fluid, high-performing teams by researchers at Harvard and University of Texas, Houston. It's fascinating. This study was specifically about fluid, fast-paced teams - teams which are assembled quickly, and are tasked with solving a problem quick. (For example, teams in a hospital emergency rooms and ICUs). What they found was that the high-performing teams 1. Looked to jointly solve problems together (as opposed to working in silos) 2. Had an understanding and appreciation of each others' expertise. 3. This worked even better if there was a high expertise variety - i.e, a diverse group bringing expertise from a variety of different functional backgrounds. I broke down the paper in plain language in my newsletter post here https://lnkd.in/g6Uj5uBx If you like posts like this, please consider subscribing to the newsletter!
