Giving thanks Friday! Shout out to all the amazing women in the #cannabiscommunity!! In late '60s and early '70s, when the back to the land movement started in the Emerald Triangle (Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity County) a lot of the original growers were women. In the 80s when Reagan sent the military after pot farmers, a lot of the time women were the ones to confront them. Mary Jane Rathbun, popularly known as Brownie Mary give out pot brownies to AIDS patients in the 80s and got arrested multiple times. She co-founded the movement that led to proposition 215 that legalized medical cannabis in California in 1996. The first person to ever get a license was Lynnette Shaw in 1997 for Marin Alliance. Lindsey Renner from HUMBOLDT NATIVE GROWN, INC. and Rebecca A. Colett, MBA from Calyxeum that are crushing it in the cultivation arena. Menaka Mahajan, PhD, Ellen Komp and Sara Payan, SME for the amazing policy work they do. Nicole Redler from ReCompass, and Melissa Burgstahler from Dear Cannabis; for the amazing compassion programs they run. Adelia Carrillo from EventHi for producing the amazing all women Blunt Branch events. Luna Stower ✨ from Ispire for the a laundry list of things she does! This is just a small list of the amazing and well accomplished women in the #cannabisindustry. There is more work to be done. When adult use market started in Colorado in 2014 the cannabis industry actually had one of highest rate of women business owners and executives at close to 30% compared to the 18% average in other industries. Unfortunately that number has dropped to 20% in recent years. Less then 1% of cultivation businesses are owned by women. As Sarah Boué said, buy weed from women! #cannabiseducation #cannabisnews #womenempowerment #womanowned #womenhistorymonth #Internationalwomenday

Just as the female cannabis plant is a symbol of versatility, adaptability, and resilience, women too embody these qualities. Like the plant's diverse uses - from fiber to medicine - women's strengths and talents are multifaceted and far-reaching. They nurture, innovate, and lead, often in the face of adversity. Just as the female cannabis plant purifies and heals, women's contributions to society have a profound impact, fostering growth and transformation. Today, on International Women's Day, we celebrate the boundless potential and versatility of women, just as we recognize the incredible utility of the female cannabis plant. May their strengths continue to inspire and uplift us all. Happy Women's Day to all female warriors around the world. 📸: Getty Images.

More and more cannabis consumers are opting for non-smokable products like edibles and beverages, this is especially the case among women. With ease of use, discretion, more flexibility in where you consume, more standardization in dosing, and the advent of nano-emulisified products, I see lots of reasons why we see this trend happening. How about you? Do you still prefer smoking flower? Or have edibles started creeping they way into your consumption routine? I gave up smoking over a year ago and switched to vaping flower. But, when my 3 month break is over (almost there!) I think I will likely give up flower completely. There are amazing fast acting edibles on the market like those from Garden Society! #edibles #cannabis #trends #data

In the two months since I stepped into the medicinal cannabis industry, I have been profoundly inspired by the extraordinary community of women leading the way. These remarkable individuals not only excel in their fields but are also committed to uplifting one another. The camaraderie and shared mission among female leaders resonate deeply, echoing the powerful connection we have with the cannabis plant—both serve as vital agents of healing and transformation. As the medicinal cannabis sector evolves at a rapid pace, it presents a landscape rich with both opportunities and challenges. Within this dynamic environment, the significance of mentorship and support among women becomes increasingly evident. I have seen firsthand how women are reaching out, offering insights, resources, and encouragement. This spirit of collaboration is essential; it nurtures innovation and fosters a culture where we can all thrive. Just as the cannabis plant flourishes in a vibrant ecosystem, we, too, must cultivate a nurturing community. This involves not only mentoring one another but also actively seeking connections with other women in our industry. By doing so, we can harness our collective strength and influence to drive meaningful change. I invite all women in the medicinal cannabis space—whether you are just beginning your journey like me, or are a seasoned leader—to join me in this vital effort. Together, let’s build a robust support system that empowers us to share experiences and learn from one another. Through informal gatherings, online forums, or structured mentorship programs, every contribution counts. I encourage you to reach out, share your stories, and contribute to our vibrant network. Together, we can elevate female leadership in this industry and ensure our voices resonate powerfully. Let’s embrace the strength of community and create a lasting impact in the power plant medicine space. Here’s to women supporting women, just as plant medicine nurtures healing. #WomenInCannabis #FemaleLeadership #Mentorship #Community #CannabisIndustry #plantmedicine

🌟 Women in Spotlight Series: Celebrating Tegan Scates In 2014, before medicinal cannabis was legalised in Australia, Tegan embarked on her journey within the Australian cannabis industry, sowing the seeds for 'High on Hemp.' Her caring and innovative approach has created a vibrant space for education and community building. Thank you, Tegan, for your unwavering dedication to advancing cannabis awareness and your pivotal role in fostering a community that empowers women in healthcare. It's an honour to shine a spotlight on your remarkable contributions. 👏✨ 🌟 Join the Celebration Today marks Day of our Women in Cannabis Spotlight Series. Celebrate in person with us this International Women's Day on Friday, 8 March in Currumbin on the Gold Coast. 🎉 Be inspired by exceptional women in our fireside chat: MiMi Sener, Tegan Scates, Jen Ravenswood and Deb Ranson. 👥 Who Should Attend? This inclusive event welcomes registered healthcare practitioners and industry participants. Men, your allyship is vital in fostering a more inclusive and supportive industry for everyone, please join us! 📩 Request Your Invitation: Secure your spot by emailing natalie@vizmedicinal.com.au and include a short bio. 👥 Today’s Allyship Tip: Avoid Idea Misattribution Understanding Idea Misattribution: Idea misattribution occurs when individuals fail to properly credit ideas to their original source, disproportionately affecting women in the workplace. "Mantribution" is a term used to describe situations where men take credit for ideas or contributions made by women. Why Not to Do This: Unacknowledged Contributions: Overlooking or undervaluing ideas presented by women hinders professional recognition. It's not only hurtful (and annoying), left unchecked, misattributing ideas from women will likely see women leaving your team. Amplification Bias: Similar ideas may not be recognised when presented by women, contributing to an amplification bias that favours male voices. Career Implications: Idea misattribution can have significant implications for career advancement, hindering equal opportunities and recognition. This dynamic may contribute to the prevalence of male-dominated leadership teams in the cannabis industry. Essential in Healthcare: Properly attributing ideas to women is crucial in healthcare as it ensures a fair and inclusive representation of diverse perspectives, leading to better decision-making and patient outcomes. 🔥 Hot Tip: Promote Recognition and Inclusion: Actively acknowledge and credit the ideas, solutions, and contributions of your colleagues, fostering a workplace culture that values merit and inclusivity. If you hear someone claim an idea that wasn't originally theirs, speak up and ensure proper attribution.
