Of the more than 50 million Americans who suffer from an autoimmune disease, eighty percent are women, with certain conditions being 16 times more common. A new program from WellTheory will support women navigating the bidirectional link between autoimmune disease and hormone imbalances such as PCOS, endometriosis, postpartum, hypothyroidism, perimenopause, menopause, and more. “As a woman who began suffering with an autoimmune disease in my mid-20’s, who went on to learn that multiple hormonal issues were one of the root causes of my diagnosis, it was important to create a program aimed at helping other women navigate this oftentimes long and frustrating journey to get find solutions.” Ellen Rudolph, CEO and co-founder. Female-led biotech company Gameto has announced the world’s first live human birth using ‘Fertilo’, its technology that matures eggs outside the body. The delivery was conducted at Santa Isabel Clinic, in Lima, Peru. Traditional IVF relies on nearly two weeks worth of injections to help stimulated hormones and mature eggs - placing a significant burden on the person attempting to get pregant. Instead, Fertilo recreates the egg maturation process in a lab setting using engineered ovarian support cells (OSCs). This replaces up to 80% of the hormone injections required with traditional IVF and reduces treatment cycles to just three days. The result is a more comfortable and less invasive experience for patients. "Fertilo provides a potentially faster, safer, and more accessible solution for families. This milestone marks a turning point in reproductive health" Dina Radenkovic Turner, CEO and co-founder. Read our full story: https://lnkd.in/e67eY8vp

Menstrual cup company Asan has launched a free period tracking app. It includes a unique environmental tracker, enabling women to track the carbon footprint of their period products. "Our environmental tracker is all about driving behaviour change. In the UK, we flush 2 billion tampons per year and the number is billions more worldwide. By giving users an easy way to track the carbon footprint of their period products in real time, we hope to drive up adoption of reusable options like Asan cups and period underwear." Earlier this month our co-founder Clio Wood was back on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour hosted by Nuala McGovern with Tess Isabelle Cosad of Béa Fertility and Farah K. of HANX to talk about our CensHERship work once again. Our first report shows that 9 in 10 organisations experience censorship of women's health content (organic and paid) on social media and 100% of the organisations surveyed in our second piece of research experienced refusal or difficulties with financial services. This censorship extends to ecommerce and payments platforms too, but perhaps more worryingly also to banking and insurance - fundamental administration that businesses need to operate. This suppression means that the whole life cycle of women's health and femtech businesses (the vast majority of which are female-founded) is negatively impacted. As most of these businesses are tackling traditionally under-served and under-researched women's health problems, it ultimately means that the gender health gap is being sustained. We'd love to talk to Amazon and Meta for starters (the two companies we mentioned in our case studies) but everyone is welcome to come and chat to see how CensHERship can help you help us all make some change! Get in touch via our website: www.censhership.co.uk Link to listen in the comments!
