From NPR: ‘Will the FDA finally ban Red No. 3? A decision could come soon’ "Questions about the dye's potential health effects go back decades. The FDA banned the use of the Red No. 3 in cosmetics and medicated ointments and lotions back in 1990. Research showed the dye could cause cancer in animals in high doses. But the agency concluded it was safe in the amounts used in food." Read More: bit.ly/4gOi235 #EarlyLearning #EarlyChildhood #TheChildrensMovement

Urine drug screening Black mothers cannot be separated from the their heightened risk of surveillance and family separation by the family regulation system. It should not be done without full informed consent explaining all the risks involved. Clinical activism involves critically assessing basic health procedures, like urine drug screens, and seeing how they intersect with structural racism, to deepen inequities and cause harm. It takes us from doing nothing in the face of injustice and carcerality to boldly doing something to uphold our oath. 📺 Watch my full presentation here: https://lnkd.in/dp9zrk5h Let’s move from silence to action. #HealthcareEquity #DrugScreening #ChildWelfare #RacialBias #InformedConsent #HealthOutcomes #DorothyRoberts #SocialJustice #FamilyRegulation #ImplicitBias

Support the Stop CMV Act! Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) affects approximately 1 per every 200 births in the United States. It is the most common viral cause of birth defects and is the most common cause of non-hereditary hearing loss. The bipartisan, bicameral STOP CMV Act (S. 3864/H.R.7542) authorizes new funding to incentivize hospitals and other health care entities that care for children to screen babies for CMV within the first 21 days after birth. The bill also authorizes funding to collect data on CMV and to assist in the education and training of health care providers, patients, and the public. Finally, the legislation directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct research into congenital CMV. https://buff.ly/3Tj2MRJ

Hospitals across the United States are routinely using inaccurate drug tests on pregnant patients, leading to false positive results and the wrongful separation of families. This harmful practice is causing immense trauma and disrupting the lives of innocent parents and children. Common medications, foods, and even over-the-counter remedies can trigger false positives, yet hospitals often fail to inform patients of this risk or use more accurate testing methods. It's time for hospitals to adopt more reliable testing procedures and prioritize the well-being of families. We must work together to protect the rights of parents and ensure that they are not wrongfully separated from their children. 📖Read "False Positive Drug Test Results Lead to Parents Being Wrongfully Reported." Learn more about this important issue and how you can help.🔗https://lnkd.in/esCkabnE #healthcare #drugtesting #familyseparation #reproductivejustice #maternalhealth
