So many airlines get stuck around decisions like this. Whether it’s respect to the past or just inability to embrace change. It’s an area that has been over thought for too long. Giving employees a voice and the opportunity to be involved in the decision making around choices like this is long overdue. What a great day at CeMAT AUSTRALIA on the 24th July, I was emceeing at the Knowledge Theatre and we began with a double dose of AI with the first speaker talking about the Silver Tsunami and the loss of knowledge this is creating, something of concern in the trucking industry. He also spoke about adapting AI and VR to assist with the mental health of long-haul truck drivers. Kim Hoo of Coles Group spoke passionately about the approach and implementation of Automation and how important it is to bring your people along on the journey. We had a thought provoking panel facilitated by Allan Leibowitz of ForkliftAction News about the sensitive subject "As Automation Expands, is there Still a Role for People in Materials Handling?" The final discussion before lunch was a panel moderated by Tabitha Bell and consisting of Naomi Frauenfelder Frauenfelder of Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds, Jamie Dixon of TMX and Regan William Brown of Labourforce Group - 25 Years; on Managing Team Well-being within an industry evolving with automation and AI. After a healthy lunch, we heard from sponsor KNAPP AUSTRALIA on Zero Touch Fulfilment and then Joseph Mashett of Big Ass Fans. And an increasingly strategic approach to biscuit supplies. 2024 proved that real partnership - not the marketing kind - creates extraordinary infrastructure. From Singapore to Vegas to London, we evolved Black Hat's security operations from pure infrastructure to true multi-vendor collaboration. Each build got smoother, each tear-down more efficient, and our cross-vendor integrations more powerful. The real magic wasn't just in the tech - it was watching Cisco Cloud, Arista, Corelight, and our Palo Alto Networks teams push boundaries together. When you focus on actual integration over press releases, amazing things happen. Most resonant moments from 2024: "You spend 7 days (solid) somewhere, then it disappears, and you go home!"
