One of our guiding principles at All Access is: treat charitable organizations as vendors. This can feel cold and calculated, seemingly at odds with the heart we all have for making a difference in the places that need it most. But we want to hold both together: maximize efficiency while retaining relationship. It's deep care AND treating charitable organizations as vendors, so we can foster greater efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness. This approach doesn't mean losing compassion but maximizing the impact of each dollar contributed. It also means far better outcomes for the people we are trying to help. You can read the whole article we recently wrote exploring this very important issue in detail: https://lnkd.in/dQez4Rxq

Congrats to Pew for putting out a great report. Our city has finally hit the US average of residents with a college degree. It has been trending upward for years, and so this is an important milestone. Philadelphia is often referred to us an Eds and Meds city, due to the fact that roughly 1/3 of the work force is employed by an institution of healthcare or higher education. Thiet is a major component of our population of college degree holders having risen. However, we are still a city of persistently enormous poverty. This prevents us from meeting our full potential socially and economically. How can the civic leaders across government, academia, healthcare and business partner to reduce poverty? Not saying it's easy. Just saying its obviously critical along the overall improvement of public education attainment, enhancing workforce skills training, reducing violent crime and generating more housing which is affordable. These are challenges which can be met and overcome.
In The Pew Charitable Trusts #PhillyStateOfTheCity report, we examine the number of adults, ages 25 and older, with a Bachelor's degree or higher. In 2024, 36.3% of Philadelphians have a college degree, and 53% of Philadelphians ages 25-34. The city has surpassed the national rate for the first time. However, Philadelphia still lags some other comparison cities with the number of residents with a degree including Washington, Boston, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. How it started: "I don't need a DPC right now." How it ended: "This is such an amazing, generous offer. I appreciate it so much and would love to accept." Professionally, I am part of the employee benefit consulting choir singing the praises of Direct Primary Care. My goal is to introduce more business leaders to this model of primary care to include it in more employee benefits packages. Lots more consultants are now doing this, and cheers to all of them. Also, cheers to the entrepreneurial-minded physicians and nurses willing to take a leap of faith, go outside the standard insurance model, and earn their living through a fixed-fee membership model while having the freedom to care and invest in the health and well-being of their patients. Personally, my family started a "Provider Fund" through our non-profit work at The CL Thomas Fellowship to gift a premium 1-year Direct Primary Care membership to those in need. We are small but growing and have gifted 3 scholarships so far. If you want to join the fun, below is a link to donate to our non-profit and all funds go towards sponsoring a local Direct Primary Care membership to the lucky 4th scholarship awardee when we raise the next ~$1k. And if you want to talk about incorporating DPC into your employee benefits, I'm here to share my experience partnering with Direct Primary Care providers and being a consumer of the model for the past 3+ years. #directprimarycare #providerfund #primarycare #scholarship
