🌀Setting the stage: 1980-2000 as the YDC dissects four key epochs of youth policy development! As we begin the journey through the evolution of policies, this foundational era paved the way to mark children and youth as distinct actors in policymaking. 📌 Key milestones: 🔹Adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) 🔹Launch of the 1st International Youth Year (1985) The introduction of these policies laid the foundation for more inclusive policies, pushing for more youth engagement. Today's generation of young people are growing up in a truly digital world. They deserve a seat at the table, to make their perspectives on privacy and information access heard. ⭐ 58 consultations across the country ⭐ 2,100 young people and youth sector members joined us at consultations ⭐ 2,500 + survey responses from young people ⭐ 34 responses to our discussion paper. These are the statistics that went into our youth engagement strategy – Engage! The overarching message we heard was that young people want the government to value their views and to be included in the decision that matter to them. My vision for the future is a world where “Children and youth should be recognized as primary stakeholders in the world's future. Countries should have youth councils and should make avenues for youth engagement in crafting policies focusing on youth and children along with senior stakeholders”. This can only become a reality if we empower young voices and shape tomorrow together! Young people have the right to shape the future!
