When your psychologists don’t sit in an arm chair and solve problems. As we celebrate world mental health day, I saw a lot of pictures of therapists sitting on a couch and offering services. But my team at Insighte has it a lot different. We work where the child is living in. They walk into schools where they’re not always recognized as mental health professionals. They’re asked to handle things they weren’t trained for. They fight for that one child who needs inclusion, often while facing physical or emotional challenges like being scratched or ignored. They walk into homes and support families and children through their interventions. Often navigating Bangalore traffic and clients cancelling last minute. But through these battles, they develop empathy, resilience, and a deep passion for the profession. My vision for our 195+ women strong team? To become the fiercest advocates for children and their rights—whether in schools or homes. Let’s also take a moment to acknowledge the families we support who also become our partners in this journey. Parents who jump through endless hoops, facing caregiver burnout, as they help their neurodivergent children navigate a world that doesn’t always understand them. And of course, the children. The ones who feel like they don’t belong. The ones who struggle to fit in. The ones who face a world that doesn’t know how to support them or sees their strengths and wonder why their schedules are so packed as compared to other kids. On this World Mental Health Day, let’s thank these brave children, their families, and the professionals who keep pushing for a more inclusive world. (They make the magic happen—one smile, one tantrum at a time.)

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial time to reflect on the well-being of individuals, especially in the digital age. The debate over social media's impact on mental health, as highlighted in Steven Levy's WIRED article, is complex. The recent surge in attention to this issue, epitomized by Jonathan Haidt's book "The Anxious Generation," has sparked a much-needed dialogue. Regardless of your stance, one thing is clear: we cannot ignore the reality of digital connection in the 21st century. As Levy states, "being digitally connected is the reality... this clock can’t be rolled back." As leaders, we must engage in informed discussions. I encourage you to read Levy's article for deeper insights. Let's prioritize responsible digital practices and support mental health initiatives. https://lnkd.in/e24B2dTE #MentalHealth #DigitalWellbeing

👥OPEN DIALOGUE: How can we address the mental health needs of the elderly population? 👫🏻🚌🌳✨ Karan: As our population ages, it's becoming increasingly important to address the mental health needs of the elderly. Lakshmi: Absolutely. Mental health issues can affect people of all ages, including the elderly. Karan: What are some of the unique challenges faced by older adults? Lakshmi: Loneliness and isolation are common issues among the elderly. As people age, they may lose loved ones and become less socially active. Karan: That's so true. Social isolation can be really detrimental to mental health. Lakshmi: Another challenge is chronic illness. Many older adults suffer from chronic health conditions, which can impact their mental well-being. Karan: That makes sense. Dealing with chronic pain or limitations can be stressful. Lakshmi: And let's not forget cognitive decline. Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease can have a significant impact on mental health. Karan: Those are serious conditions. How can we address these challenges? Lakshmi: Promoting social engagement and connection is crucial. Encouraging older adults to participate in activities and hobbies can help combat loneliness and isolation. Karan: That's a great idea. We can also support programs that provide companionship and support for the elderly. Lakshmi: Absolutely. And access to affordable mental health care is essential. Many older adults may face financial challenges that limit their access to treatment. Karan: That's a big issue. We need to advocate for policies that improve access to mental health care for the elderly. Lakshmi: And it's important to raise awareness about mental health issues among older adults. Challenging stereotypes and encouraging open conversations can help reduce stigma. Karan: Together, we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment for the elderly. 😃👫🏻🚌🌳✨ #theconversation #mentalhealth #psychology #happy #healthy #learning

Equity and Accessibility in Mental Health Services In today's world, ensuring equity and accessibility in mental health services is more crucial than ever. Mental health issues affect individuals across all demographics, yet access to quality care remains uneven. Factors such as socioeconomic status, geographic location, and cultural stigma often create significant barriers. Equity in mental health means recognizing and addressing these disparities. It involves creating policies that ensure all individuals, regardless of their background, have equal access to the resources they need. This includes offering services in multiple languages, providing affordable treatment options, and implementing telehealth solutions to reach underserved areas. Accessibility goes hand in hand with equity. It’s not just about providing services but making sure they are reachable and usable for everyone. This means accommodating various needs, from physical disabilities to different cultural perspectives. By prioritizing equity and accessibility, we can foster a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their best mental health. Together, we can break down barriers and build a supportive network that truly cares for all its members! #mentalhealth #publichealth #psychology #therapy #equity #clinicalpsychology #healthpsychology
