As the recent report from The Lancet Psychiatry Commission highlights, intergenerational inequality, insecure employment and unaffordable living conditions are driving young people into a state of unprecedented distress. Affordable housing isn't just about shelter; it's about providing stability, security and hope for future generations. It's about giving young people the foundation they need to build healthy lives and break the cycle of entrenched disadvantage. According to a Gallup poll, just 31% of adults in the U.S. describe their mental health or emotional wellbeing as "excellent." The importance of reducing the stigma of, and increasing access to, mental health treatment can't be understated. A majority of young adults won't seek care unless they absolutely have to, and early detection of mental illness can be critical for long-term health. Fortunately, funding for psychiatry and therapy services is on the upswing. This week, Talkiatry, a major provider of in-network psychiatric care, announced a successful $130 million round of fundraising. The company, co-founded by Georgia Gaveras, DO and Robert K., employs 300+ full-time psychiatrists who serve patients with a large number of mental/behavioral health conditions across 43 states. A PubMed study of Talkietry patients found that after ~5 appointments over 15 weeks, over 60% no longer had clinically significant anxiety or depression symptoms. Per CEO Robert Krayn, this latest round of funding will further enable Talkiatry to "bring more health plans into value-based contracts and expand to reach more Americans in need." #mentalhealth #funding #growth #callpercy

Peer work is emerging as a key element of youth mental health care, and was highlighted as such in the recent The Lancet Psychiatry Commission on youth mental health. This includes Family Peer Work, which aims to empower those closest to a young person experiencing mental ill-health.
