In the latest issue of the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics, authors reviewed key publications to outline the origin of the cephalic index (CI), adaptations of the measure over time, anatomical landmarks and alignments used, clinical tools, necessary considerations for different ethnic, sex, and cultural influences, value and limitations of CI measurements, and appropriate use of the CI in the documentation of infant skull deformities. Implants have approx 222 deg ROM or “dry” arc. Our “physiological “ arc is less,  because bones get in the way. ABI prevents API, creating a gap in flexion. If we shift the dry arc, without penetrating the physiological arc,  we exploit this gap and gain 20deg ROM. Side-specific stems can exploit the flexion gap (and create space in extension). Current pre-op planning burden can be mitigated. So can impingement and instability. 😎

Early Access Paper Just Posted: A fully automated perfusion estimation method from power Doppler ultrasound, named three-dimensional single vessel fractional moving blood volume (3D-svFMBV). The method addresses the long-standing challenge existing for nearly 30 years in standardization in tissue perfusion estimation using power Doppler ultrasound. “Keep it safe and simple”, this is how I would describe the essence of the recently published report by our young team of Università degli Studi di Cagliari. In synthesis, resolution of an aneurysm of the ulnar artery through simple decompression of the Guyon’s canal, which was stenotic. The aneurysm, distal to the compression, was ab extrinseco caused by the stenosis, with no internal damage to the vascular wall, which allowed its spontaneous resolution post-decompression, with no microvascular surgical action.

New research highlights significant geographic disparities in prosthesis prescriptions for Black and White Veterans after lower limb amputation.
