The Zakat fund holds immense potential for eradicating poverty, a fact historically demonstrated during the reign of Khalifa Umar ibn Abdul Aziz in the Umayyawi era. However, to replicate such success in today's context, it requires a concerted and collective effort from all stakeholders. #ZAKAT #ZAKATFUND #ZAKATCOLLECTION #ZAKATCOLLECTED #ZAKATDISTRIBUTION #ZAKATDISTRIBUTED #QATAR #QATARZAKATFUND

✨ Building a Path to Resilience—One Household at a Time! Check out our new animation video to see this transformative journey in action: youtu.be/KadzNFEthD8 From 2017 to 2024, AVSI Foundation, supported by USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and in partnership with Trickle Up and American Institutes for Research, implemented the Graduating to Resilience Activity in Uganda. This innovative, evidence-based Graduation model empowered over 13,200 refugee and Ugandan households to achieve resilience and economic independence. By integrating livelihood support, financial literacy, and robust social protection mechanisms, the activity achieved an 80% graduation rate—proving that a carefully sequenced, holistic approach can effectively mitigate the effects of extreme poverty. Cohort 1’s progress is especially notable: 18 months post-graduation, 62% of households continued to meet resilience benchmarks, demonstrating their capacity to deploy advanced coping mechanisms to navigate shocks and maintain stability. And this journey is just beginning. AVSI and the Graduation Community of Practice are exploring ways to scale and adapt this model across diverse settings, setting new standards for sustainable poverty alleviation and resilience building worldwide. #PeopleForDevelopment #Resilience #PovertyAlleviation #GraduationApproach

In Islam, there are established solutions for every problem, yet often we lack awareness of them. For example, if poverty is a pressing issue, there are remedies available. Consider the potential impact if Zakat, the Islamic principle of giving alms, were meticulously administered and distributed in accordance with the principles exemplified by the Rashidun Caliphs. Imagine a scenario where a country like Bangladesh, with its immense potential, could effectively raise substantial funds annually—perhaps not merely 5 billion GBP, but significantly more, potentially quadrupling or quintupling that amount—for poverty alleviation efforts. In such a circumstance, the question arises: How long would it take to substantially eradicate poverty from the nation?

What are poverty’s multifaceted dimensions in Nigeria? What are the root causes? How is the government collaborating with its partners to address this challenge? Which poverty prevention programmes succeeded or failed, and why? What are the elements of a successful poverty alleviation programme? What are the challenges with creating such a programme? How can an engaged government implement programmes changing Nigeria’s poverty narrative? Join Patrick O. Okigbo III, Founding Partner at Nextier, and Olushola Afolayan, a Poverty Reduction Expert, to discuss these questions. ______ Emeka Okpukpara | Ndubuisi N. Why measure multidimensional poverty? A person's lived experience of poverty goes beyond lack of money. Poor people experience multiple overlapping deprivations, a concept known as multidimensional poverty. National Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) measure these deprivations in a range of areas such as education or living standards, carefully selected to reflect the country’s context. Stay tuned tomorrow (18 Dec) for launch of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Somalia Report from the Somalia Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Somalia National Bureau of Statistics with the support of OPHI and UNDP Somalia.
