It alarms us that today, two years into the conflict in Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of children and youth live in Poland, however over 1️⃣1️⃣5️⃣ 0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ of adolescents aged 10-18 remain out if school. And dropout rates are increasing, as resources decrease. To shed light on this critical issue we joined forces with CARE International in Poland and the International Rescue Committee and launched a report: "Out of School: Assessment on Barriers to School Enrollment for Ukrainian Refugee Youth in Poland." On the eve of the 2-year mark of the full-scale war in Ukraine, we met to present the report’s findings. “Publishing such reports is crucial, because the more we know the more we are prepared to react and to be proactive.” - commented Kateryna Baranetska, Ukrainian Embassy representative. In the delivery plan (2024-2026) for the New Scots Refugee Integration Strategy, published on 5 July, outcome 4 focuses on communities in Scotland understanding integration interculturally and respecting the diversity and strengths that New Scots bring. Some of the shorter term outcomes identified are that New Scots have improved social connections within society and across communities, improved confidence in using English and that their cultures are respected, celebrated and thrive. It states that there are plans to invest in community initiatives which build on existing good practices and address key priorities identified through the community consultation and/or which support those groups whose needs have already been highlighted. https://lnkd.in/g-fEBMbZ

This paper explores the determinants of economic and #socialintegration of #Syrianrefugees in #Germany and their impact on refugees' decisions to stay. Findings reveal that #economicintegration impacts social integration for refugees. Key factors include #education, having children in Germany, language skills, and living in refugee accommodation. #Employment indirectly affects the intention to stay. Conversely, higher education, being single, and English proficiency decrease the intention to stay. The study underscores the importance of social integration to retain more educated refugees. 💫Day 2 of APSOR 2024 💫 focused on strategies to enhance refugee participation in policy-making and improve access to essential services. Workshops and panel discussions delved into topics such as legal empowerment, educational opportunities, and healthcare access for refugees. The emphasis was on sharing best practices and identifying practical steps to support refugee-led initiatives. The day featured collaborative discussions aimed at strengthening networks and partnerships among refugee-led organizations across the Asia Pacific. By connecting these groups, APSOR aims to build a robust support system that can advocate more effectively for refugee rights and integration. 🤝 Creating Inclusive Communities for Refugees: Bridging a Cultural Gap 🤝 Shayan Shabani, a high school student, gave a TEDx Youth talk on inclusive communities which explored fundamental differences between individualistic and collectivist societies and how these differences can impact the lives of refugees during the integration process. 💡 The talk entitled “Creating Inclusive Communities for Refugees”, sheds light on the unique cultural and social aspects that refugees bring with them, and the crucial role host communities have in understanding and accommodating this cultural difference by providing refugees with a sense of community.
