M.Arch Year 6 Thesis Project at #MSA Metropolitan Prosthesis Collaborative Work with Chuyue Jiang Phase I: The Problematic Future Scenario from Which We Identify the Spatial Problems: This thesis explores the transformation of East Manchester's urban landscape amidst rapid urbanisation, population growth, mobility enhancements, and future transportation. Using urban complexity and systems theory, we view the city as a self-organising system and extrapolate future scenarios for East Manchester, identifying spatial problems. By 2073, the increased number of vehicles, dense urban fabric, and high-rise buildings reduce green spaces, block pedestrian access, and limit sunlight to the ground level. Great thanks to Ulysses Sengupta, Solon Solomou, Alex Macbeth and Thilo Aschmutat for their invaluable guidance and tutoring. Architect and Partner Liz Sparrow leads our Science and Research sector. Her project work proves that a successful Life Science campus master plan needs a multidiscipline approach right from the start. Here’s three key reasons why: 1️⃣ Clients need flexibility. We’re planning 20-30 years ahead, so the right balance and range of disciplines with a free flow of ideas early in the process reveals many opportunities. 2️⃣ Future-proofing requires detail. To de-risk a project and achieve Net Zero emissions, we need to create layers within a master plan that take on board many aspects like building services and future climate change as well as the overall design. 3️⃣ It takes a lot of minds to create a community. Our experts fix non-technical, social areas upfront that provide the right environment for neurodiverse individuals. This campus ‘heart’ must consider many inputs from acoustics to landscaping. Read ‘Why master planning is more than just architecture’ here - https://lnkd.in/eM_d5_VQ 📆 Liz will be at The Life Sciences and Innovation Real Estate Annual Conference on Wednesday 6 March. DMAP SERIES POST 01 Defying Mediocrity in Architecture: Life Beyond Existentialism (#DMAProject) Embarking on my architectural journey back in 2019, during my first year of undergrad, I encountered a pivotal moment that shifted my perspective entirely. Amidst the bustling corridors of academia, I found myself grappling with existential questions, questioning the very purpose of my collegiate existence. This period of introspection, though initially daunting, proved to be a catalyst for profound personal growth. As the world around me slowed during the unprecedented lockdown, I delved deeper into self-reflection and exploration. Immersing myself in the timeless works of architectural luminaries and literary giants, I sought solace in the realm of ideas and creativity. It was during this transformative phase that I began to craft narratives reflective of my own journey, each word a testament to my evolving character. Yet, as I ventured into the realm of publishing, I encountered setbacks and rejections that left me questioning my path. Despite the challenges, my insatiable thirst for knowledge and keen observation of life's minutiae propelled me forward. Through the lens of literature, I learned to perceive the world not merely as a collection of nonfictional anecdotes, but as a tapestry of endless possibilities waiting to be unraveled. Over the course of two years, I immersed myself in the pursuit of understanding, refining my perspective with each passing day. It was amidst the quietude of my office space that inspiration struck—an epiphany that transcended the confines of mediocrity, urging me to forge a path of extraordinary significance. Stay tuned for Part 2 as I delve deeper into this transformative journey. #DefyMediocrity #ArchitecturalTransformation #PersonalGrowth #DMAPind

♦️23-03-2023♦️ A year has passed since I defended my thesis in architecture. After spending years working on it, days later, I felt lost and drained, as if I'd given birth and then lost my child🥀 Today, the child is growing up ….and I realise that it was not about the destination ; it's all about the journey. It's about finding joy in the simple moments, learning from the challenges, and appreciating the beauty along the way…🌺 Of course, This marked the end of a chapter but the beginning of a new one, firmly established💪. A new adventure that brings more responsibility, but also personal growth, the wisdom that accompanies it and more joy …🚀🚀🚀 #heritage #architecture #earthenarchitecture #PHD #thesis #research

My dissertation research inquiry looks at vacant urban spaces as opportunities for undoing historically infused urban sprawl principles. I take on railway line inefficient space as an entry point to form taxi rank space as a code to socio-psychologically help the spatially vulnerable homeless people. My interest stems from the cellular potential of creation. I’ve loved building blocks from a young age and I have channeled my research inquiry into using cellular models of housing potential to rehabilitate transport precincts into neighbourhoods. I’m looking forward to iterative design insertions into site. #architecture #socialarchitecture #urbanfabric #humanagentdesign
