🚀 Exciting Opportunity Alert! 🚀 🌟 The Geospatial Council of Australia (#GCA) is looking for two enthusiastic and commited volunteers to join our GCA Mentoring Program Working Group for 2025! 🌟 As the chair of the mentoring program this year and next, I wanted to share a bit more about what you can expect and the commitment involved due to some questions that I have received. 📅 Commitment: 🔹 Regular meetings from early February to the end of August/early September. 🔹Meetings are typically held weekly, but we sometimes skip a week if priorities allow. 🔹Meetings are from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM (Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra time), though this schedule may be adjusted based on the preferences of the working group members. 🛠️ Tasks: 🔹Volunteers will be assigned individual tasks or can volunteer for specific roles when the opportunity arises. 🔹Roles include being the M/C or host for online events, with responsibilities like updating and QA/QC-ing slides. 🔹Events include a welcome session, speed networking, industry roundtable, and graduation, but these may change based on new ideas from the working group. 🔹 Taking meeting minutes, especially action items, on a rotating basis. 🔹 Administering the mentoring program software, including pairing mentors and mentees and responding to email queries. 📚 Content Development: 🔹In 2023, we revised key topics and created detailed key cards for each. 🔹In 2024, we proofread and checked URLs, but for 2025, we may need to update these topics, requiring additional volunteer time. 🔹Every year, we also update the handbook (a guidebook with program goals, dos and don’ts, event schedule, key dates, and FAQs). 🔹Estimated time outside of meetings is about 0.5 hours per week on average, varying based on tasks and program priorities. In most weeks throughout the program, there will be no individual tasks but in certain weeks, especially before events, the workload is higher. 🤝 Why Volunteer: ✅ Skill Development ✅ Networking Opportunities ✅ Personal Growth Please note that while this is a volunteer role, we highly value commitment. If you are unable to attend weekly meetings or inform the team in advance if you cannot make it, this opportunity may not be the best fit for you.
