We design processes and storage methodologies, transportation networks and multi-modal connections. But it's the people driving demand which is the raison d'être of supply chain. Supply chain and logistics are often blamed for operational inefficiencies and difficulties. However, this perception is often due to a lack of investment in resources, technology, and talent. Additionally, the time-sensitive nature of these activities can lead to blame being assigned without a thorough analysis of root causes. The perception of low value-add and lack of cross-functional collaboration can also contribute to the blame culture (even if not mentioned clearly). To foster a more constructive environment, it is important to establish balanced performance metrics that consider both efficiency and effectiveness.
