How do you make things interesting? I speak at many events and I find that making topics interesting is the life blood of an enjoyable event. I am so excited to be asked to emcee the upcoming CIO Leaders Australia Summit with Focus Network in Sydney. There will be some amazing speakers and panelist and I cannot wait to see you there. Here are 3 things I do, to keep things interesting: 1. Speak about a topic your passionate about. For me this is DEI and I am proud to work in an association that focuses on this. 2. Just days to go until Sandler 2024 global client summit. As a global speaker here is another behaviour / activity I suggest: Have a plan B for everything. Occasionally things go wrong, no matter how much you rehearse, plan, liaise with the AV team things happen. This can be, video doesn’t work, interaction tools fail, microphone stops working, support team gets something wrong! Plan your workarounds in advance. Know your presentation that well it doesn’t matter if the slides go down temporarily or completely, have a standby microphone, always good to have around for audience questions anyway, have your support team, well briefed, but have your own plan. should anything go wrong and you need to step in to cover their elements. Your audience will support you if you are authentic and explain your redirection if needed. A management thought leader conference is returning in June 2025 (Los Angeles) I just returned from the In2:InThinking Network reunion. This is a group of followers and students of some of the most significant management thinkers of the last 50 or more years. For over 20 years, the group has met in an atmosphere of sharing and camaraderie to expand each others’ knowledge and understanding about managing organizations. These conferences are unique because there are no paid presenters or staff. In fact, presenters are expected to pay to attend the conference and cover their own travel. Many speakers volunteer to help put on the conference and get involved with event logistics like moving tables and chairs. This is one of the finest groups of intelligent, humble, and welcoming group of management thought leaders I’ve ever met. I plan to attend the conference in Los Angeles in June 2025. Who knows, I might even present. So, if you are a fan of management thinkers like Deming, Drucker, Ackoff, Taguchi, Schein, de Bono, Forrester, Jaques, and others, put this conference on your calendar for next year.
