The UK's health care crisis demands a new approach. Prevention is key. Addressing the underlying issues that make people sick before they arise can improve overall health and reduce costs. Obvious solutions like cross-government collaboration are often the hardest to implement. There is hope. Previous attempts to reduce health inequalities show prevention works. The Health Foundation is offering a path forward with a "Bill of Health" outlining actionable steps for sustained, cross-government prevention efforts. This Bill of Health will explore tools like clear targets to turn prevention from a good idea into a real force for change. By learning from similar challenges like climate change, we can develop a roadmap for a healthier, more equitable future. #Healthcare #Policy #Inequity #Prevention #internationalhealth

£FREE webinar - Health Inequalities: how can we turn back the tide? Health inequalities are avoidable, unfair and systematic differences in health between different groups of people. They are rooted deep within our society, and they are widening, leading to disparate outcomes, varied access to services, and poor experiences of care. This results in earlier deaths, lost years of healthy life, intergenerational effects from traumatic experiences, and has significant economic costs for society. Join Professor Jim McManus, National Director of Health and Wellbeing, Public Health Wales and former President of the UK Association of Directors of Public Health, in conversation with William Roberts, Chief Executive, Royal Society for Public Health, as they discuss the burning issues behind health inequalities in today’s changing world. In this webinar Jim and William will debate the key drivers of health inequalities in the UK, including why efforts to reduce inequalities in health have stalled, what needs to be done, and how public health professionals can respond to health inequalities at a local level? #health #inequalities #publichealth https://lnkd.in/eP4AMzmP

We recently held a poll asking what percentage of health outcomes are driven by SDoH. More than 40% of respondents believed that 64% was the answer, yet SDoH can actually influence as much as 80% of health outcomes. It’s vital for payors to not only recognize the significant impact social needs can have on a member’s health, but also find solutions that identify and address these barriers to close gaps in care and improve outcomes. “Four features distinguish top performing countries from the United States: 1) they provide for universal coverage and remove cost barriers; 2) they invest in primary care systems to ensure that high-value services are equitably available in all communities to all people; 3) they reduce administrative burdens that divert time, efforts, and spending from health improvement efforts; and 4) they invest in social services, especially for children and working-age adults."
