I had the pleasure of listening to Toni Townes-Whitley, CEO of SAIC, at the HBR Future of Business event this week. Her insights on addressing complex challenges through emerging technology were powerful and practical. One key takeaway was her approach to change: measuring progress with metrics, not just words. She highlighted tracking 14 critical metrics (and 70 across the organization) to drive change. What stood out most was her focus on innovation and culture. She’s created sandboxes to test and simulate new tech, ensuring clients see real results. She’s also fostering a culture that embraces debate and calculated risks while incubating talent through upskilling and consultative expertise. On a more personal note, her description of “sticky floors” as a powerful metaphor for the barriers people of color face—beyond the glass ceiling—resonated with me deeply. A Revolution of The Soul. This was the theme of PolicyLink's Equity Summit that I attended last week in ATL.
