𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 I delivered a series of ESG-focused events for representatives of the gold mining industry in Central Asia. During two one-day webinars and an intensive two-day training session, we with participants covered a wide range of topics related to sustainable development. The focus of these program was on Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS). We understand that the gold mining industry, like any extractive sector, actively impacts regional ecosystems, biodiversity, climate, as well as the health and well-being of employees and local communities. Wuth participants we explored key social, environmental, and governance principles as defined by the World Gold Council and The International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) (not only them), examining how these standards set the framework for responsible mining practices. In addition, participants gained insights into ESG strategies, ESG-Risk management, and practical tools for integrating these principles into their everyday operations. #ESG #Sustainability #GoldMining #MiningSector #CentralAsia #SustainableDevelopment #EnvironmentalImpact #SocialResponsibility #Governance #RiskManagement #WorldGoldCouncil #ICMM #SustainableMining #CorporateResponsibility #GreenEconomy

The Queensland Critical Minerals ESG Advisory Panel has met for the first time. The Panel, which was established under the ESG Partnership Project between the Department of Resources and AusIMM, met earlier in the month to start discussing how to uplift ESG capability in the industry. The Panel consists of high calibre representatives from industry, academia, First Nations, community and environment communities of practice, manufacturing, technology and innovation, investment, workforce, federal government and banking. As such, there were plenty of insightful and in-depth conversations on the topic, highlighting the power of collaboration. Over the life of the Project, the Panel will: - Review findings of ESG trends research, provide advice on the ESG capability of the critical minerals industry and help to develop recommendations to uplift capability. - Share ESG insights on the Critical Minerals landscape in Queensland. - Provide perspectives to shape success of Project initiatives. - Provide advice to enhance industry ESG participation and input. - Highlight industry development, practices and opportunities. A special thanks to Director-General Warwick Agnew for the welcome address and participation in the meeting. Mining Queensland | Department of Resources (Queensland)

Reflecting on ESG at the Tanzania Mining & Investment Conference 2024 As the conference comes to a close, I am inspired by the insightful discussions on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) for responsible mining considerations. Today’s session underscored the importance of embedding #ESG principles into the very DNA of organisations, moving beyond mere compliance to fostering meaningful impact. Insights from the panellists Simon Shayo and Humphrey Asiimwe resonated strongly with me: ✅emphasis on the need for companies to demonstrate that ESG is part of their DNA. This approach not only earns the essential "social license to operate" but also goes beyond ticking the box, ensuring genuine value creation for all stakeholders. ✅it is time to shift away from traditional donation-driven models of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Instead focus on sustainable contributions that drive long-term impact within communities and the environment. It’s clear that #ESG in the mining industry is no longer a “nice-to-have” but a core strategic priority. As we navigate this journey, collaboration and a commitment to sustainability will be critical to achieving shared goals. What are your thoughts on integrating #ESG into core business strategies? Let’s keep this important conversation going. For those looking to deepen their understanding of ESG in mining, I encourage you to explore #Dentons’ ESG Learning Hub. It’s a fantastic resource with webinars, podcasts, and practical insights.; https://lnkd.in/eWJirz2P #ESG #Mining #TanzaniaMiningConference2024 #Sustainability #Investment Tanzania Chamber of Mines (TCM) The Ministry of Minerals - Tanzania

Quickly adds podcaster to my bio...🎙️ I recently sat down with the formidable pairing of Sarah Gordon and Quinton N. to discuss what, in some corners, might be considered an incongruous topic of ESG compliance in mining. The mining sector and environmental disasters often go hand in hand in the public conscience. However, few realise how critical mining is to the energy transition and the path to a low carbon future. More contradictions. Unless mining is done in a socially and environmentally conscious way. An impossible challenge or an achievable aim? Take a listen to learn more about the mining sector's sustainability superpower and the key role regulation and compliance play in achieving this goal. The principal emerging trends in the global mining sector are all about sustainability, as per the recent 121 Mining Investment Conference (courtesy of InDaily and BDO/BDO in Australia). No matter your scale, focus will be given to "companies that operate with deeply embedded Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices from the outset...[with] an integrated approach to consider holistic ESG issues such as water, nature, Indigenous rights, culture, and community engagement." At Magnetite Mines, sustainability is a core focus, and we have established our 'foresight' sustainability program. Under 'foresight', we are moving rapidly to build our licence to operate for the Razorback Project - through meaningful and inclusive engagement, stakeholder partnering, responsible water sourcing, elevating cultural and indigenous rights, assessing climate resilience, and open and transparent communications. We have taken our first step in forming a sustainability framework and have committed to a responsible mining future.
